We might have met at Mike’s. I was there a couple weeks back with Nick (ol red beard). I’m bald these days, Bandana usually wrapped on the dome...

I haven't hit Mike's bowl since it got drained this season so probably haven't met yet.

Like I said, I'm going to try to make it over there this weekend. I'm still getting my skating legs back and actually had another minor torn calf muscle which took me out before the Summer. Seems like it's healed finally though. I tried to skate at SkaterCon in the Spring and made one run and had to stop. Sucked!

Decided to set up the SC Roskopp Target One.Going to get creative with the grip tape.First thing though will be clear grip taping the center SC logo.A4C5AF5D-BAA3-4D2E-BA0E-0BC2CF0C5A03.jpg 17F2AC3F-F6AE-422E-8869-906B61E5CD03.jpg

Yesterday's sesh at "Mike's pool" out in Gilbert was rad as fuck! So many rippers there. I just tried (somewhat unsuccessfully) to stay on my board.

Back is sore as hell today and woke me up at 4am.

    Still worth it.

    1209181344a_HDR.jpg
    @BandanaBerg

I didn't get too many good pics from my phone but there were about 15 people at the sesh from wobbly sketchy dudes like myself to a pair of shredding ladies and a couple young guns that were killing it along with the other old salty regulars.

At one point I messed up after dropping in and when I hit the wall my board shot about 30 feet out of the bowl and made it all the way into the neighbor's yard! Embarassing but at least it missed their actual pool.

I did get over the stairs first try, though. Not bad for probably 6 months since the last time I sessioned there!

That’s great for you both as well as the variety of others who were there! We all know are limitations as far as age, skill etc.Skateboarding is a blast and i’ve been fortunate enough to know so throughout my life even if there has been gaps/times due to life when skating simply didn’t permit. If your hesitant, questioning etc.circumstances that can occur while doing so than you shouldn’t be skateboarding at all, hehe!

Yeah, Mike's pool can be a bit challenging at first because it's SOOOOO fast. You actually have to concentrate on slowing down or once you come off the deep end wall, the next thing you know you're heading towards the stairs at Mach 11! I still marvel at people who have their carve lines front and backside down in that thing. I didn't skate my first REAL pool until I moved to AZ and needless to say it was a humbling experience. Dudes like Jason and you other guys who grew up skating backyarders definitely have a leg up on me who only skated minis and later skateparks which are much more forgiving (usually... Burnside exempt).

The other hard part about a set up like Mike's is with 15 people all trying to get runs in, it can turn snakey pretty quick. I take a bit to warm up and getting a run every 10-15 minutes really makes it hard to start "feeling it" and by the time everyone has started leaving there's like only 20 minutes left if the sesh. Mike has open sessions Sundays from 12-3 and that's it. He does that for his own sanity as well as his neighbor's I'm sure.

Also, selfishly I like the variety that decent parks have between street and transition. I still love the feeling of a boosted ollie off a pyramid or doing a gap to a manual pad/step up.
Try to skate everything if possible.

Now I'm just trying to get my legs back and try to limber up after taking longer off my board than I ever have before. Trying to not get re-hurt or jack myself up some new and creative way as well.

I love skateboarding but it's been hard coming to terms with my "advanced age" as well as how my life has changed so much over the last couple years.

Regardless, it's always amazing making new friends through it and some of the most lasting relationships I've had were directly due to skateboarding, which is just as awesome as being able to hit a stand up front 5-0 on a 7ft wall after all these years...!

Is $150 a 4x8' sheet of Gator skins a decent deal?

I've never priced out how much that stuff or Skatelite is compared to run-of-the-mill masonite. Been thinking it's time to build a quarterpipe... Need to work on my lip tricks!

That’s the going price for both if not a small fraction cheaper.I’m going with a few layers of masonite top layers because i simply can’t afford the GS or Skatelite,LOL!I remember when masonite was like $3 and now it’s $7.

That price is actually delivered to my driveway as well...

I've never built a ramp on my own before. Always just lended a helping hand when someone else with more knowledge and tools was involved. I certainly have all the right tools now after getting them from my mom once my dad passed away. Trying to think logistically where the ramp would have to live, unless I went with a small micro 1/4 pipe. Which would actually be pretty fun.

The thought of having a 8' wide QP sounds sweeeeeeet, though. Just heavy as fuck and probably impossible to move around.

I really need to just build a ramp in my little backyard and say fark the grass.

It would definitely be heavy especially if you went with the extreme as running pool coping.I’ve ridden the SoCal Skateshop quarter pipe which has PC and although heavy it has wheels on the four corners and moves around pretty easily as i can verify that from doing so.Without the PC it’s obvious that the quarter pipe would move easier due to less weight.

I like that but honestly I'd be fine with no roll in or the ledge/rail combo. That shit would get in the way and if I tried to skate them I'd probably get more broke off than usual.

Roll in's kind of suck because you can't do big long grinds and are stuck with set up tricks or lots of stalls. Gapping them is cool but once you've done it a few times...

Who am I kidding, this ramp would be fun as hell. No way something like this would fit in my yard, though. I need to hit up the "Smoke Tree Ramp" that's also close to my house that I know @BandanaBerg has already shredded. Most open sessions are Tuesdays though which makes it really hard for me. And not in a good way, either.
