I've been doing doing a lot research on what 3'' lift kit I should get for my 04 taco 2.7, 4 cylinder, 4x4 and saw a lot of people running bilstein 5100's and a lot of people running OME. I am stuck on which one I should get. I've heard bilstein 5100 w/eibach is stiff for 4cylinders. Leaning toward OME. RECOMMENDATIONS?

    OME

If you're replacing leaf springs, cost ends up about the same with either shock, so I went with full OME.

Fine print for this option from Toytec’s site: ** This lift is not recommend for Standard cab or Tacoma's with a 4 cylinder 2.7L engine size. Ride quality can be quite firm and you will achieve more than 3" of lift. **

You might want to call them.

    I had both setups on a slightly different truck (2002 4Runner v6).

Went from billies/eibach to OME/881 setup.

Billies/eibach were about 1-1.5” taller. Little harsh on the ride but very firm taking corners.

OME setup is a nice ride not too firm not too soft. Great for a daily driver/family car.

Good luck with new your setup.

This is the problem I've had looking for this kind of info for my 2.7, their is shit for info available regarding the different springs on a 2.7. I even emailed wheelers to see what ome coils they recommend for the 2.7 and in their reply they were just shooting in the dark as well.

I am having the same problem trying to figure out a good lift to run on my Taco. Have a 2.7 Regular Cab. I plan to add an ARB with Winch So I think I should be good despite the warning for the 4 cylinders. I was looking at the Toytec BK9504-ASB Kit.

I have kings up front with 650lb coils. Shrockworks plate bumper and a 9.5xrc winch, maybe 200lbs total.

With the 2.7 it's a bit of a harsh ride. But it holds up the extra weight easily. When I have them rebuilt I'll do a softer valving

I think you'd be pushing your CV axles' limits. 2.5-3" is really the max they can handle, and with both the 2.7 and a reg. cab, you're close to the lightest variation of these trucks. Toytec doesn't recommend it even for extended cabs with the 2.7. I went full OME on mine (same body/engine) with 880 coils, wish I'd done the 881s.

it's like black magic. I have the same issue as well. I spoke with someone at toytec and he turned me on to the Dakar leaf pack. I ordered it and then read on the site that it is not recommended for either the 4 banger or a single cab. I also ordered the 881's for the front. I am going to talk to him again today and hopefully switch up the rear end to something else, maybe the lift shackle?
what did you end up going with, and how did it work out?

I ended up ordering The Toytec kit with the Bilsteins and the add a leaf and I couldnt be happier. The ride of my truck is smoother and better than it ever was. The guy that alligned my truck did mention that I should upgrade my Upper Control Arms, which I do plan to eventually. Also they dont tell you and I never saw anyone suggest it but I ended up replacing my sway bar links and the U-Bolts -not much added cost but way easier than trying to reuse. I would also get a couple of cans of good rust preventative paint for the undercariage.

Very nice, I just got off the phone with toytec and was able to change out the dakars for the adjustable shackles. I am not planning on adding any significant weight to it anytime soon. I have a built FJ for anything crazy. I also have JBA UCA's coming. I will be sure to post up how it turns out. thanks for the info.

OP, did you end up going with the OME kit or the bilsteins? I have to replace my leafs and ucas and figured it would be a good time to replace my shocks and coils as well. Interested to hear your feedback.

also, when i got into the rear end, noticed I had a broken leaf. I replaced with stock height springs, since i already had the rest of the parts in the mail. Turned out great! On the lowest setting the rear sits 1/4" lower than the front! A note for those going with an adjustable shackle: If you use the lowest setting and possibly the middle setting, you will need to notch your bumper bracket a little. I also cut my exhaust just past the axle.

You can put Dakars on a regular cab, I have them and they ride great.

@96_Taco_SC_2.7 you'll need the CS018R Dakars, the leaf pack in 95-97 single cabs is shorter than all other first gens. I run those with 880s and Nitrochargers, night and day from the tired stock suspension I bought the truck with.

Fwiw, I just dumped my 2.5" top plate spacer lift on my 2.7 extra cab for some 882s. I used the new springs on my fairly new kyb monomax shocks. The truck sits at the same height it did with the spacer lift and stock v6 coils. It's definitely alot firmer ride but still rides pretty smooth. It almost sits fully extended on flat ground with the struts I'm using so not much down travel left. Not sure if billies or ome struts have longer travel or not but if so that would help. Oh yeah, I have a farely heavy aftermarket skid plate and a home made receiver tube up front made out of 2x4x1/4" tubing so I do have a bit of extra weight up front.
