Iirc rab89 contacted arb and they said the 883s are for first gen dcabs that want 3" or 2nd gens that want less lift. Looking at their specs there is no reason why they shouldn't be warrantied unless explicitly said by arb

Interestingly I was told that the 883's were designed for the newer gen Tacos. This is a quote from ARB Tech Supervisor:

"the springs you have fitted are technically for a generation newer Tacoma, designed for N140S struts. Dimensionally your N91S struts will work as well."

As for lift, I got 1.5" in the front, and slightly less with aal and OME shocks in the rear. This photo is of my truck, stock tires. Once I get the shock issue resolved, I'm looking to put a slightly taller tire on.

That's insane I got a full 3" out of mine. I may be wrong about what generation they are meant for but I'm 95% sure they were made for both trucks just to deliver different heights

nope, 883s were designed for 2nd gens only...they just happen to fit first gen shocks

    Odd, considering it's a 1st gen option through Toytec.

    That's exactly what I thought.

More from the ARB tech supervisor:
"Toytec uses the 883 in a lot of their kits. It has a higher spring rate than the 880,881,882 first gen coils and presumably increases lift, though possibly at a reduction in ride quality."

I just got back from visiting ARB and they found the problem immediately.
I'm not looking to place blame on anyone as it looks like it was an accidental omission of a very important part when the shocks were installed: the black sleeve/collar. I don't recall every having seen that part when I got the shocks in the mail, so it obviously wasn't installed. Whatever happened to that part will never be known, but ARB gave me a new set of shocks free of charge. Hard to beat that level of customer service. Looking forward to getting these installed and being rid of the squeak that has plagued me for over a year.

    good deal.

I don't mean to thread jack but, I'm trying to get my brother's first gen setup going but He has stock suspension minus the 5100's set at the middle setting. With a tube prerunner bumper, his front end is sagging and I want it to be level. Can I add the OME 883's or 882's to fix that front sag? The 5100's are new so I wouldn't want to replace them. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You can just remember to set the 5100s at 0"

So pretty much I just have to disassemble everything, set the 5100's at the lowest setting and replace the stock coils with OME's?

Oh and What would be better for my brother's setup, 883's or 882's? He has a tube front bumper.

well im about to go full ome setup in the front end. im asuming i should go with the 883's b/c my winch and front bull bar nearly weight 200lbs together. would it be a bad idea to also install trim packers with the lift? i was going to get the 10mm packer but just wanted to make sure that this would still allow my bumpstops to be utilized in the front end of the truck.

Bumping this old thread to see if we have any updated experiences out there. I’ve gotten great help from several users on here about which coil spring to run with my 1st Gen DC TRD V6/4wd with no additional weight. I want to be close to level, no major rake or reverse rake. For every person that has been happy 883’s, another has been happy with 882’s. Hopefully this means I’ll be happy no matter which one I choose!!!

I just replaced my OEM suspension on my 03 DC TRD 4x4 this weekend. My goal was to upgrade, but maintain as close to stock as possible. I'm very happy with the results. If you don't plan on adding addition weight to the front you want 881's unless you're looking to lift the truck. I went with:

5100s front and rear (front set to 0)
    OME 881s
General Spring HD Leafs (add 1.5" approximate)
    New bushings, washers, bolts, etc.

This added about 1.75"-2" of lift, but should settle over time.

Thanks! I do want some lift and the 881’s didn’t do much after 1,000 miles on my V6 ext cab. Where did you find the general leaf springs? How are they?

The GS leafs have mixed reviews from users on here. From the research I did it seems like 75% of people who have them like them and the other 25% were not pleased. My issue was the OME and other leafs (I think J59) are progressive springs and not rated to carry any load in your or recommended for towing. I wanted a heavy-duty upgrade to stock with minimal lift. GS offers a standard and heavy-duty version. I went with the heavy-duty for load and towing reasons, plus they matched the lift I got out of the upgraded 881s. I've only had them on for 3 days, but they seem fine. They're stiffer than the stock, but so are the 881s. Overall for the money ($500 delivered for the pair) they were about $300 cheaper than ordering custom heavy-duty springs from Alcan and work for my needs.
