One thing that I almost know for a fact that would fix the problem is longer front shocks. The thing is that I don't know any longer shocks for the front that you can buy separate that are longer than the 5100's. got any ideas?

90021/885x with LR UCA and sway bar removed. I had the clunk/bang on front suspension extension with 1/4 top plate spacers. Removed the 1/4 spacers and still bangs and clunks as the front wheels roll into dips over rocks etc.

I decided to try ome this time as every raved about the brand. Going back to ICON extended travels. The dakars I have are great so the OME kit isn't a complete fail

The OME's don't compare to Icons what so ever. OME and Bilsteins are about on par with each other and what I would call mid class shocks I guess.

Icon and King > OME and Bilsein > Stock

The Dakars are a great leaf pack though.

I had these pre assembled from headstrong off road. They hate the smallest potholes or cresting rocks etc. Every time it's SLAM fully extend

I was running 886's on my 5100's set at the lowest setting and didn't have this issue. Do you still have the stock UCA's? I wonder if that is what is making the bang sound. The BJ maxing out. I never got to experiment with the stock UCA, but 5100's droop out as much or more than most ext travel C/O's (on 2nd gens, no idea about 1st gens) so that may be the issue:notsure:

Wboops. Somewhere along the way I forgot you had OME shocks and not 5100's. The OME's banging seems to be a known issue due to their lack of travel compared to 5100's.

I got some free 885x's and I have 5100's all around. Now I'm a bit hesitant to use them after reading this. But I don't plan on using any spacers and I have a 2011 DCSB v6

You should be fine with 5100's.

That's good to know. Now I have to make sure I keep the rear level. Not a fan of rake.

Hate to bring this thread back from the dead but I have the same problem. I have a 4x4, DCSB, with ARB and winch with 886 and OME and it bangs over bumps in the road and speed bumps. Coil packs were assembled by Headstrong--absolutely amazing people BTW!

Has anyone discovered a fix or is this something that just works itself out?

The problem is the spring/shock setup, I cannot believe this gets brought up so much here.

There is X amount of suspension travel. You install heavy duty springs and raise the vehicle 3", now the shock is going to top out very easily as you took away 3" of suspension droop from ride height. If you had 4" of droop at factory height, you now only have 1" droop before the shock tops out.
The OME front shocks are shorter than the Bilsteins, which is why they are a far more common source of complaints. There is nothing complicated about what's going on. Both shocks have poor rebound dampening and easily allow the shocks to hit maximum extension, and make an audible clunk when it happens.

    Some fixes:
    1) run shorter springs lift
    2) run longer shocks
    3) run limit straps to stop the noise
    4) buy a proper set of extended coilovers (which will have better valving and internal extension limiters) and upper control arms allowing more travel.

Added or removing a top plate spacer makes no difference if the same spring/shock is in place. However running a shorter spring and a top plate spacer may HELP alleviate the issue of topping out while maintaining the same height, but you'll need control arms to ensure there is no binding at maximum shock extension.
