What size tire are you running with the shocks set at 0 and the 885s?

    Including my experience for others:

884/90021 shocks on a DC 4x4, had massive amount of clunking/topping out

Replaced 90021s with 90000s and the clunk is gone.

@benzy the 90000's roughen your ride since they are firmed valved? The only thing I can thing of why that changed anything is that with the stiffer 90000's your coils aren't compressing as much.

I just lifted a 2016 with 888 coils and I live in a complex with speed bumps and they are making that sound. I've only had them a week though so I don't know if it is something that will work itself out. I am a little worried to take it off-road if it's doing that over speed bumps.

Anyone know if the springs have a break in period and they aren't as stiff afterwards?

My ome setup has been on for about 6k now. An still stiff as a bored. If they did settle an soften up some i sure as heck didnt notice it.
Im just gonna throw this out there. I know its different but im running a aal in the rear with boss shocks from toytech and really like it. They havent gave me a seconds trouble. Anytime i hit a big bump my front ome coilovers jar my teeth out but once my back tires hit the bump it is alot smoother. So like i said i will be replacing my ome coilovers with icon 2.5s. I have had standard travel icons and extended travel icons in the past. Both 650 pound coils with no additional wieght and they road night and day different then my ome setup. There just to dang stiff and have no travel. I have also ran 5100s. Like i said above. With stock coils set to top notch before too and they were even better then the ome coilovers jmo.

When I pull my 885 ome off they are going in the dumpster. I wouldn't wish these on anyone who goes off road. In my opinion the 885 OME is for mall crawlers. Both of my HD ram trucks ride better off road and that isnt saying much. I have around 6k miles on mine and cant stand to drive the truck unless its on good asphalt. Even aired the tires down bad enough to kill fuel mileage and not much better. The rear is ok but the front is teeth rattling. Im thinking of going King extended travel. I want to try the Bilstein fronts at 0 with the 885 coil also but havent got around to it since my toyota sits in the garage and forgot about.

I had my 90021/884 setup for a month and there was no change or settling. It just seemed like there was too little rebound dampening for the springs. The 90000's are supposed to be "stiffer", and while they are a bit (and I mean by a small measure) firmer, the ride is still excellent. The valving appears to be somewhat more digressive with more rebound dampening. The truck now rides much better in every aspect.

Also I recall a tacoworld thread where a response from ARB was posted, and they stated that the 90021's were valved to respond to small bumps on the road, which probably means the 90021's are valved lighter in both directions. My thinking on this is the 90000's were originally meant for the stiffer 886 springs, so they valved not only to match the higher spring rate during compression, but also to dampen the higher forces the 886 springs exhibit when extending. But maybe the 90000's just work better with all the OME coils, incl the 590# springs (883-5, 887's etc)

I wish I can offer more, but I think the 90000s are better suited for the tacoma. ARB recommended them when I presented my issue. And this guy's video pretty much sealed the deal:

I have the Nitro sports with 885's. Ride is much better without the sway bar. Sway bar transfers a bump from one side across to the other side and makes it feel like the front end is jumping when you hit a bump.

Don't listen to these guys. I'll pay shipping for your 885s. It won't cost you anything (just like throwing them away) and I can learn my own lesson the hard way.

This helps too. Slow beats the hell out of you. Speed up and the valving is much better. Helps with plate bumper and sliders also.

I wish you would try 5100's with those 885's - I've been wanting to go with that combo up front (120lbs of hidden winch and mount added) and your thread makes me hesitate. Especially with Canadian pricing, I don't wants no ragrets!

My truck (2005 DCSB) is run for the same application as you, hounds. I have OME coils up front and LOVE them. However, I do have a front ARB bumper and winch. I did go with the 5100's because I didn't want the clunk. I am also running the 887's (with top plate spacer) and it was night and day difference over my spacer junk I was running. The only thing I need to do now is to fix the f'ing steering column clunk (the zip tie mod didn't work).

Finally ordered the 5100s to try out. Been working alot so not sure if I will get them installed this coming weekend. They are low cost so its worth a shot. I want to beat a dead horse for a minute. Everyone says spacer lifts preload the coil when all it does is move the strut assembly down not changing shock or coil stroke. If the rough ride comes from the angle of the a-arms then it is a geometry problem with the bump transfering through the a-arm to the frame instead of being soaked up by the strut. My thought is you would most likely end up with a harsher ride from every lift through stock a-arms unless it has a drop bracket to level the a-arms. I buy the talks of preloading coils with adjustable struts for more lift because the coil is already packing compressed weight along with vehicle weight creating a jarring ride along with the angle issue I pointed out. I fully understand that valving and travel length will change ride as well as topping out etc. I hope the longer bilstein will help in that dept but still fear a-arm angle at 2.5-3 inches will still give more bump to frame feel than desired. Lets hear your thoughts on this and or a-arm drop bracket experience.

Installed 5100s at 0 with no spacers 255/85/16 maxxis bighorns do not rub. The ride is significantly better on and off road. Not the difference that is questionable. It is the difference that gives you the wow factor. My ome struts are going in the trash at 7k miles. I would not wish ome struts on anyone.
