OME 886s without a bumper- to change out, or add a bumper?

    Hi all,

A couple years ago I did a 3 inch lift to my 2012 DCLB TRD Sport, and I went with OME 886's up front as I did not want to deal with sagging suspension. It's actually been great and I have my desired ride height.

Lately when having passengers in the car it's been more apparent that my ride is very stiff- noticed when having coffee on the road etc in these crappy midwest city streets. I do not go offroad and really don't need a bumper, but they do look pretty badass. I am not opposed to putting one on if it will really help the ride smooth out, but I've heard they actually create horrible handling manners. Plus the gas mileage sucks.

What I want to do most is change out the front suspension for a softer cushier ride (like stock) but keep my current height. I have heard mixed things about the 887s and that they sag over time, and I don't want to deal with those rubbing issues if that happens. The 888's only fit the third gens, correct? Any suggestions on a suspension set up for my situation?

Have done plenty of research on this board but hoping someone has been in my specific situation before and found a good solution.

I'm no expert, but 886's are mainly used when additional weight is added up front. Otherwise the 885's are meant to provide the same lift with less spring rate. Typically both provided a 2.5" lift.
That said, you will want to research the new lift heights OME is providing. The new 885 and 887 coils are giving less height than the prior. Both are 600 lb spring rate I believe and close to stock, but still a bit stiffer.
I believe a front steel bumper will help soften the ride, but I'd lean more towards swapping coils unless you really want a bumper.

I’ve got an ARB bumper for sale in WV! Come get it!! Pairs perfectly with 886...

all seriousness, get the 590lb coils and call it a day.

888 will work with second gens according to wheelers.
