Yep. Anything approaching or over 2.5" of lift it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED you get UCAs.

It cost me $300 to have my 886s mounted. Had I bought them with my lift before my bumper I'd have saved that $300 and not lost depreciation on the 887s when I sold them.

As for UCAs. Required? No. Highly recommended? Yes. Why? Better ability to properly align after suspension lift and adjust for bigger tires too (higher caster numbers). Plus you may get better articulation for off-road purposes.

UCAs are the most expensive part though in many cases. But the labor to do it all at one time is cheaper than piece mealing it over time. Assuming you don't do your own wrenching.

As I mentioned above, I have 885s with spacers. It rides great. With skids, sliders and a tool box in the cab, I should have gone 886. I have a front hitch. When I put the winch on it, the 885s sag noticeably. If you are even thinking about armor and a steel bumper, go with 886. If you don't like them, come over and I'll swap you - and do the labor for free.

No number of free algnments can get you good caster angles with stock UCAs on a lifted Tacoma.

I guess what I should've asked is will I get the same or about the same lift with just 886's as I did with just 5100s set all the way up? Or would I still need some sort of spacer?

I have OME 887's on 5100 up front and love the ride, to me it rides like a Cadillac. I have the 1/4 lean spacer on the Driver's side, and JBA Standard High Caster UCA's. I did the ECGS Bushing at the same time.

With zero weight on them, the two springs are the same height. On the truck, 886 will give more lift, as the 885 will compress more - being a lighter coil.

I’m running 886s with nitrochargers and stock UCAs. You don’t need new UCAs. Just find a competent tech to do your alignment. I’m gonna end up getting UCAs down the road if I ever find a good deal on some, but yeah. It’s not needed.

    Quick update:

First, Wheelers off-road is awesome. Customer service is top notch. I called twice and both times people went in great detail to properly inform me. Also, Josh gave me a great deal on a set of LR UCA, so I pulled the trigger. I want to do this right!

Thanks again for all the replies!

I have a gen. 3 4X4. I just ordered 887 with 5100 in the front. I also plan in putting on 1/4 spacer DS. I was told by the vendor I would get a 3” lift using the second notch.

Anyone do this? How was the ride since it’s pre loading the shock.

I’m running Fox in the rear with Dakar’s (2). Will this get me 3” all around?

I’m okay with a bit of bro lean but not too much bro!
    Any help is appreciated.

Did you end up keeping the 887? I'm in the same boat, I have 887's currently and will be adding ~110 pounds as well with a pelfreybilt aluminum bumper and winch.

I ended up just going with Fox 2.5's and 650# springs, just so I could dial it in and take the guess work out of it.

I have the 887s and Dakars in the back. OME Nitrochargers(double cab/ no armor on 33s- 32.8 for the purists(285/75/16). Just make sure to get a half inch lean spacer. The tiny "trim packer" included in the kit does nothing. All 4 corners will be off by an inch without a serious lean spacer. Mine measured (hub to fender) LF-22 1/4 RF-23 RR-24 3/4 LR-23 3/4 after installation without a serious lean spacer. Other than that, I have no complaints on or off road! Great suspension for the $!

1/4" spacer on my driver 887 and my lean is still substantial as well.

    Hi,
Did you confirm that you didn't top out the shock this way? Or did you extend your bumpstop at all?

    I'm thinking of adding a 1/2" top spacer (1" lift) to my 885s and 5100s at 0 for a full 3" lift.
