oh sweet, I was worried since Ive been told having a 4x4 would make having 5100s and being aligned impossible

I'm really curious about these 887's. Just trying to decide on going with the OME shocks for the front or the 5100's. I read through this entire thread and wasn't quite sure which setting you all used on the 5100's for the 3" lift with these springs. Did you go with the bottom mount or the middle mount for the 887's?

Seems like going with 5100's will be a cheaper setup than the OME's shocks.

My Ishock setup is about at the end of life and no one around me can rebuild the things. Nor do I have to time to leave the truck in the shop to have it done. Lesson learned! I'm going to go back to a more basic setup and I think I'm gonna love every minute of it.

Only thing I need to figure out is where to get a studded top hat for the new shocks. I don't believe they come with one do they?

I have the 5100s with the 887s. The billies need to be set at 0", the lowest setting. Not 100% sure what the top hat is but I'm pretty sure the answer is that they do not come with it.

By the top hat, it's the part off the top of the stock shocks that has the 3 mounting studs and holds the spring in place. I don't think either shock model comes with them.

Where did you all order your components from? Looks like wheelers for one guy? Anyone else?

Got all mine from headstrong offroad. They have a full kit for an awesome price. Great customer service...definitely recommend doing business with them. Also heard good things about wheelers.

If you order through Headstrong you can have the coils/shocks assembled for $90. Then you get new top hats.

That headstrong deal is pretty solid with the full leaf pack rear. But coming off my previous setup I really just need the front and rear shocks.

I did a write up a long time ago on the install. But the best tip I can give you is to get the whole front end up in the air so you can disconnect the sway bar end links from both sides. Then you can rotate the sway bar out of the way. Makes the install soooo much easier.

Let's not thread jack this into an installation thread, but wanted to throw that tip out there for you. Here's the link.

Let's keep this puppy on topic though for everyone else. Feel free to post in my "now super old" install thread with feedback or additional tips.

it rides awesome, much better than it did with the OEM Bilstein's. No AAL, just the OME Dakar Leaf pack. I will say I have the usual squeaking going on, will be using something on it tomorrow to see if it resolves it and for how long (not the usual greasing)

Let me know how this goes, I have been kicking around installing 887's with my 5100's, but almost everyone tells me those are strictly for 4 runners or not to install with 5100's because they will blow them out. I know this has been written about, but I don't have the $$ for a second run on this so I really need to make sure I get it right first time around.

That's a big load of bs. The only difference between the 887s and the 885s is that the 887s are 5mm (maybe 10, can't remember) longer, just like the 885 is a slightly longer coil than the 884. So yeah they are made for 4runners but they definitely fit our trucks just fine. Also, literally hundreds, if not thousands of people pair the OME coils with 5100s on our trucks and I've never read about somebody blowing out a shock strictly because it was a mismatch between the two, and I did tons of reading on it before I got mine. I wouldn't worry about it.

If you really are concerned though, just go with a full OME lift for the peace of mind...it will cost you a bit more though.

    :annoyed::annoyed::annoyed::annoyed:

People are ignorant and run their mouth not knowing what they are talking about, I see this everyday on here.
Fact is the 887 coils are 5mm longer than the 885 coils and have the same spring rate as the 885s. So the additional lift is coming from minimal added preload on the coils.

Now aside from this the only other factors that would blow out the shocks, which is a statement that doesn't really make sense in itself, would be ring spacing/coil count (potential for coil bind). Both are a non factor during full compression of the shocks with the 5100 at their lowest setting nor likely at the 0.85 setting based on specifications alone.

Another ignorant thing often brought to the table is the spring rate, in that the spring rate is too high for the lower perch to support the resistance placed on it during compression. I can explain in detail why this is a non factor as well, but I honestly don't want to waste my time doing so

In summary and I hope I don't offend anyone, but its very apparent to me most (not all) on here are clueless yet feel the need to chime in offering what they would call advice when literally most of the time their "advise" is just passed down garbage started by some knuckle-head who should have really just kept his/her mouth shut instead of confusing those who are trying to learn something.

Okay rant is over..... sorry I just get frustrated with all the misinformation that's passed around on this forum.

texvet61 this is in no way directed at you, all you were doing was just mentioning something that was brought up. Not calling you ignorant at all, but doing so to the members who run their mouth even though they don't know squat (you know who you are..... stop it!) :drevil:

Enough of that, happy Friday :D

Installed my 887s and LR UCA's yesterday. I have a hard time believing these coils are good fits for 5100s. First red flag was how the coil sat on the seat. Definitely wasn't flush like the factories and the coil had a larger circumference than the seat. Also, the rubber part of the top hat wasn't flush with the inside of the coil-it was too big to fit the little lip that's supposed to go around the inside. The coil was slightly curved after putting it on the strut but I imagine that'll go away with time.

I do like the ride quality compared to 5100s set to 2.5" on the factories. I put a 1/4" top plate spacer on the driver side, and I am completely level with the rear. The Wheelers 1.5" AAL with the overload, without the tsb done is in back. I definitely didn't get 2.5" of lift with the factories because I had about 2" of rake prior to this install :spy: We'll see what happens with settling and what not.

I've got the 887s on mine with OME shocks, and I didn't have any problem installing them. Fit was perfect for me an installed better than the crappy procomp shocks and springs I first went with.
