Not clear if this was done on or off the truck. Maybe he can chime in and clarify.

I just had new BP-51s installed last week, went off-road for 5 miles on mild dirt road and have about 60 miles on these shocks. Is this normal for both rears to be leaking a small amount of oil? If so, will it stop or are these a defective batch? 351B1AF0-1BF0-4580-8CAD-D2C2A44C60E2.jpg D96F5F6C-F15B-4A23-99EF-8D7FE98C1078.jpgC27756FE-2BE6-4B89-A470-94C250A562B6.jpg

This is definitely one of the most informative threads I have read in awhile.
I just put the cash down on 2018 dbcb long bed taco. I also just ordered the bp-51 set. Hopefully it will be here in a few weeks.
I am going to switch the 16 to 17 wheels, and then go with 255/75/17 or 255/80/17 not sure yet. I wont really have any weight on the truck as far as bumpers are concerned for a few months. I plan on going with an aluminum cbi front bumper and winch. So I was thinking of setting the them at 5mm. I really just want around 2" lift. Then going up to 10-15mm in a few months when I add the bumper and a shell. I was wondering what some of your opinions are?

ARB Tech said it was most likely leftover oil near the seals during manufacturing. I was instructed to clean the areas with de-greaser and pressure wash after, which I did. They said if it keeps occurring then they would work with me and OKAuto to resolve the issue. So far, post-clean--no leaks are showing after about 100 miles on-road and another 5 miles off-road driving :)

I went the same route you did with the BP-51's on my 17' Tacoma, the rear shocks were fine, but my coilovers had a faulty spring. they are supposed to be at a 600lbs spring rate, but after talking to ARB, they said that the spring rate was a lot higher than the spring rate that they were supposed to be. I topped out like crazy. I ended up selling them back to ARB and waiting on the refund check as we speak. I am going with 2.5 Kings all the way around, along with T/C UCA's.

I'm pretty torn on these. I've been saving up to purchase these for quite some time and will be hitting my mark next month. I really want to like the BP-51s, but I am finding quite a bit of leaking issues being reported. On paper, the product sounds great and I was sold on ARB quality. Starting to question whether it's the right direction to go...

Sorry new to all this but how can you tell the spring rate was at a higher rate then it was supposed to be?

That’s what ARB(OME) said....they come factory with a 20mm preload and I topped out like crazy.......and at 20mm of preload I see posts on TW about how they love the suspension....Wether that was the problem or not, they couldn’t tell me how long it would take to fix or what not....I didn’t have time to wait as I wheel often.....I went with Kings instead and love them......OME said it could of been a bad batch of coils

I spoke with them on the phone and got the same answer. This was over a month ago. They still do not have a solution for the problem. Starting to get a bit impatient and considering asking for a buy back.

If you don't mind what was your buy back option?

    Awww Piss.

I opened the box on my new BP-51's and there is a bit of residual oil on one front coilover and one rear shock. I am a mechanic by trade and understand that new parts of this nature do have some oil on them. I e-mailed these two pictures to Marie at Headstrong and requested her to look and advise me but don't expect an answer until next week. I really don't want to play the warranty game.....

Yeah, I don't think it's a big deal, but I don't want to install/remove, install/remove, and screw around with it.

Have you seen any leak after install and become an issue??
