Very interesting situation for sure. Thanks for sharing. These are the odd balls that we all scratch our heads but get us all thinking.

thanks. I’ll be adding ~200 lbs with the winch and front bumper soon. I’ll have to weigh the rock rails to see what they come in at.

I’m currently running 4 comp and 6 rebound. Think I would like to lower it, but want to add all the weight before playing around with the settings anymore. Hoping I won’t need to adjust preload anymore then where I’m at (15mm).

talking to arb, they said 15mm is a good setting for just their bumper that weighs 180 lbs on its own.

question about adjusting the preload. Once i compress the springs am i supposed to loosen that allen stud on the preload adjustment ring before i try and adjust it or don't touch this? if i am to loosen it, what do i torque it back down to when i'm done?

I’ve read through much of this thread but may have missed it. On washboard or gravel roads going 5-10mph something doesn’t sound right up front. It may be topping out.

The only extra weight I’m running is Mobtown sliders but I doubt those are really affecting the front. I have no other weight adding accessories on front or back. I’m running medium Dakar’s on back with Firestone Rode Right airbags and Daystar cradles. The air bags are for the occasional heavy load of firewood in bed and 5x12 utility trailer.

With no extra weight up front what preload should I be running on passenger and driver side to prevent tipping out?

I would think you would need to be at a preload of 5mm with no weight.

Pretty sure you are supposed to loosen it, but I took mine in to a shop since I don't have a wall mounted spring compressor.

Some updates, I just finished the bp51 install this afternoon. After performing an at home self alignment the trucks handling great. On my 2019 sr5 at stock 5mm and 1/4” spacer and medium duty Dakars I got just a hair above 2.5” up front measured center hub to fender flare. And just under 3” in the rear. I’m sure it will settle some but the truck looks great. More pics Tommorrow after I cut up the front to get tires to not rub.

After some settling and front is just under 2.5” and rear just under 3” of lift so far from the suspension. I’m a big fan of the ride so far. Spc upper has really helped with clearance. So far no rubbing and no cmc with the lift and got truck driving very straight after dialing in my alignment. It barely touches the cab mount at full flex 3/4 of the way through the steering. Not enough to worry about at this time.

nice! It looks great man! You’re at the 5mm setting right? At 15mm and no weight, I was at 3” over stock (Trd pro, so ~4” maybe?) in the front and I was having topping out issues and a rougher ride. Just installed the front bumper and winch and it brought me down to 2.5” in the front and I haven’t experienced any topping out yet and the ride is a lot smoother.

I’m still rubbing against the rear inner fender a bit when the tire gets tucked in and at a turn at the same time. But, I have my caster set at 2*. Going to change it to 4* today and get another alignment Tuesday and see if that helps. If not, I’ll be doing some cutting. With the new front bumper I have a lot of room up front so I think the 4 degrees should fix my issue.

my current height from the ground to the fender with 285/75r16 tires and 1/4” HS spacer:

    FP 38.5”
    RP 40”
    FD 38.25”
    RD 40”

    Awesome looking rig.

Yea I’m at 5mm with the 1/4” spacer on both coil overs. I’m using spc upper control arms. My lower controll arms adjustment is maxed out for caster pushing my wheel as far forward as possible. I’ve dialed camber in with the spc uca adjustment and set them at position D. What uca r u running? If u dial more caster with the uca u will actually create less room in the rear of the wheel well opposite of the LCA. I’m running 285/75/16’s on scs f5 -25mm offset wheels. Everything I had read about this wheel tire combo was that I’d be cutting and chopping a bunch. I just had to trim a little bit front and rear so far. Really a big fan of these uca’s paired with this lift.

now I’m just waiting on fed ex to deliver my 5.29’s

right on. With that bumper you’ll have plenty of room up front. Max out the LCA eccentrics for max caster. That will give u the most clearance like I did. I don’t even have a cmc and am just barely touching at full flex on position D on the Spc’s. If u need even more u could go position E if needed.

from what I understand, adding positive (+) caster will push your wheels forward. I went from position D to position A. Attached the SPC sheet and a diagram.

a lot of mis information has been spread on this topic. in fact. Adding positive caster via the lower control arm eccentric does push the wheel further forward. However adding positive caster via the spc uca does the opposite and pushes the top of the wheel back toward the back. In order to get the most clearance from the back u want to max the lower eccentrics for caster *most important* (rear eccentric all the way out, forward eccentric all the way in) And on the spc uca go more toward position D,E,F less caster, but also moving the wheel forward. It is important to end up with still positive caster overall in the end. In that diagram that red line has more positive caster than blue. The more angled it gets the more caster u have.

well, put my wheels back on the ground and they are definitely further back. And created some bad positive camber. Going to put it back the way it was and get with the alignment shop and let them adjust it. Letting them know I want to go as far forward as the suspension will allow without causing any negative effects to steering. Then, from there, decide what needs to be cut in the rear.

oh yea. Give them as much info as you can. I’ve spent hours playing around with it myself getting it as close as I can with some fishing line to measure toe in and a level to measure camber. Got it driving damn good with good clearance. I wanna take it to get a read out and see where I’m at and just have someone fine tune it from here.

So after what I have read, The out of the box settings are going to ride rough on a not weighted Tacoma? I'm wrapping up for a customer tomorrow and would like to know if that should be lowered? Other question is he is running at 285/70r17 with a cab chop.

well, it used to be that way when they were shipped from the factory at 20mm preload. but now they're shipped at 5mm preload. perfect for an unloaded truck in my opinion. I set my rebound and compression at 1 comp 4 reb in front and 2 comp 4 reb in rear and gonna run it like that for a while on my fairly stock weight truck.
