I ended up at 17mm passenger and 20mm driver. I'm running a full set of front skids, sliders, steel bumpers, winch...

Did you adjust compression and rebound to compensate for roll?

    Hey guys,
So I had BP-51's installed by a shop a couple years ago. The rear has a Dakar heavy pack with an add-a-leaf which was originally to accommodate a camper.
As it is, the rear has the right amount of lift. However, the shop installed the front lower and said that ARB claims you shouldn't set it higher unless there's more weight up front like a bumper. Front is set around 5-7 mm.
Overall, the front is 2 inches lower than the rear, which is just unacceptable.
Do I need a Headstrong spacer, or can this be adjusted up, or some combo? What do you think? Thanks

I have the hd dakar's and add a leaf, have mine set at about 18 passenger and 22 driver.

Really? Mine came new in box at 3mm and i was bummed because now i have to go to a shop as my retailer recommended i crank it up to 20 mm but i have only sliders. But seeing this comment makes me think about just slapping them on without adjusting

Hi all, just wanted some input from your experience with preload settings for the BP-51s on my 2013 TRD Sport. I had a shop set the preload today, and they took my $$$$ and gave me my coilovers with 22mm on the passenger, 25mm on the driver side. I was a bit shocked, they knew my front setup (Scorpion bumper w/ 12k lb winch, no armor, pictured below). And for reference, I do have the OME HD Dakars in the rear, with some gear, toolbox all the time.

So my question is, should i bring them back in and ask for a readjustment, or try it out? Definitely leaning to get readjusted to about 17mm on passenger side, 20mm on driver side, considering everything y’all have said in this thread.

Any input is appreciated, as I don’t know what these guys were thinking. I really want a nice ride on pavement and dirt roads, and be able to use the comp/rebound accordingly and not have to pull out these guys 3 time to “dial them in”.

Id definitely bring that down, im 10/10 with no real added weight and even that is probably the most id go. It netted a 2.25 inch lift for me. The ride quality is also amazing and i was able to absolutely bomb down some straight rough trails with the right tire pressure. As well as on-road it feels like the stock softness

Provided you do have some weight up there I think 17/15 is probably the best bet. However thats just an opinion based on what ive read on these and the weight you have. You still do want to have some down travel especially across different driving styles off-road and im not sure how your shop got to 25 whereas my shop says 20 itself is really hard to get to due to the spring being so compressed.

Ive also read (but of course it must be taken with risk assumption) that up to a 1/4” top hat spacer can be added on top without exceeding the geometry limits of the suspension and have no affect to ride quality and will net you an extra 0.5 inch of lift. Personally id run it with an extended bumpstop if i went that route.

But in conclusion id much rather prefer functionality over an extra inch or whatever of lift. If if i wanted more then it would be time to break out the ol’ wallet and dish out some cash for quality parts

Thanks Matt, very much agree with your assessment. I’ll be going in tomorrow, hopefully they will stand by their work and bring it back down. With my bumper and winch, I estimate I have about 120lbs extra in the front end. So I think 15mm pass / 17mm drivers is what I’ll go with. In the picture above, I’m sitting at 23” from hub to fender with the current toytec coilovers, which is about 2” lift, right?

If I get 2.5” at 15/17mm and a plush ride I’ll be a very happy man.

Not sure what your before measurements were as stock but that lift height should sound about right. Others have reported pretty decent lift above 2 inches with 20 mm and added weight and winch as per ARBs recommendation but also found it to be too stiff and top-out too early. These coilovers were also designed for heavier rigs as well so that’s probably why.

Anyone have a high mileage review? how the Bp-51s are holding up etc? I just bought some and I plan on doing a lot of highway driving plus light or somewhat moderate off-roading, plus dailying. Anyone ever rebuilds etc? Where you got it done? I know it's a huge ask from the Bp-51s but I am hoping with my moderate driving style, I can get 80k to 100k miles before a rebuild. Thank you in advance. :)

I’ve been looking at this kit and honestly I’m bummed out now. If they can be adjusted to a 3” height then there should be enough shock length left so they don’t top out.

I need to get my preload adjusted, and I'm looking for a little insight.

2023, 150 lb sliders and full skid package.

I'm thinking like 13mm driver and 10mm passenger.

    Does that sound right?

Lol 3” is insane. If you want that go for kings but even then anything will top out too early with stock LCA

But it wouldn’t hurt to just go 13/13 to be at the best height and still have functionality especially when considering settling and sag over time.

I think the OP ended up going with something near 13 as well after adjusting like 10 times
