Hey guys, I’m getting ready to purchase the OME lift kit with Dakar heavy leafs. I’ve got a constant weight of about 500lbs due to my rack, tent, and slide out drawer. Which coils would you guys suggest in front to level out with the heavy Dakar leafs?

I'd talk to OME about your setup and get that.

That being said, quite a few folks recommend not using the nitrocharger shocks and getting Bilstein or some other shock..... Now if you are going with the BP-51 shocks, rock on.

Yea I’m conflicted because I’ve heard mixed reviews about whether I should go Bilstein or OME. What’s the negatives of the Nitrocharger

OME 888 if you have no weight up front. If you do have weight (steel bumper, skids, winch, etc) then get OME 886 and pair them with the 90000 nitrochargers.

887s were awesome when I had just skids and weight over the back, definitely needed the upgrade to 886s after the bumper/winch

That’s an awesome setup! I think I’m going to go with the 888 to even it out a bit more because I don’t have as much weight in the back as you do! You’d recommend OME over bilstein?

Will depend alot on the weight up front,
I have a slimline bumper 80lb and smitty synthetic winch 60lbish. And went with 888 over 886. The 886 according to headstrong would have been too much for the weight i had up front and give a rough ride. Also another member with the same setup as me changed from 886 to the 888. The 886 is best with a full bumper/winch. Again just going off what im told/read.

I've only experienced the OME kit but don't regret it

I also only have experience with OME, but I have beat on them pretty hard with no issues, and I've seen some bilstiens snap

And if you add more weight, you can add another AAL to the Dakars. I have the heavy duty + the AAL. I have a bunch of weight.

I don’t have anything on the front of mine currently. So I’m thinking the 888 Will help level with the heavy Dakar leafs

Twin tube design which doesn't dissipate heat as well as a monotube. Also, you can get longer shock length if you buy a shock outside of the OME kit allowing for more drop. If you want even stronger shocks, then check out the 6112/5160 set up.

Another thing to check during your research is the Stock OR Bilsteins blowing out during that Tacoma/Ridgeline battle through Death Valley.... One of the writers noted that Toyota has been using the same small diameter shock for a long time.... if you opt for the 5100s or the 6112/5160 setup, you'll be getting a larger diameter shock meaning more heat capacity..... which is a good thing.

The OME kit with heavy Dakar’s is at the limit of my budget. How would you compare those to the nitrochargers from OME

So all in i have the ome medium duty kit, with dakars. A front hybrid bumper/winch, prinsu rack and rtt/rack For now. If i add more weight or settle i can add a leaf to the rear dakars and change the coils to 886 or a small spacer depending on sag etc. If u dont plan on any front weight or just minor front weight the medium kit will do u fine with an add a leaf if you have constant weight in the rear over 550/600lb.

Old man emu FTMFW. FWIW I've had 3 vehicles and upgraded to 5100s and they have all leaked. Under normal driving conditions and bilstein won't warranty them, apparently leaking fluid isn't covered by a lifetime warranty.

After all of the research I've done, I'm probably going to go the 6112/5160 route. Might even start with a AAL until I can add on the Dakars.

If your budget says go with the OME kit, go with it. You can always change stuff out later. You might find it suits you just fine as well.
