    hey y’all!

I’m looking for any insight with removing the HD leafs on my 09 Tacoma to help balance it out. I was looking at a post that was pretty detailed on the “how to” but now can’t find it for the life of me. Any idea where I can find it, or better yet, anyone have any insight?

If you are just replacing the leafs and putting on different ones, this is a YouTube video of how to install them on a 2nd gen....so just do it in reverse order.

Thanks for the link! I’m not replacing them, just looking to remove the HD leaf because I don’t really have a use for it to be in.

Here is one on how to install an Add-a-leaf which you can also use to take apart your dakars and remove the HD leaf from them.

It’s not rocket science, but its not a beginner project. A second pair of hands is not necessary, but would be helpful.

Would you say it’s not a beginner project because of the multi step process of it all, or is there something I might be overlooking?

It's super simple. Pull the leafs out, which is the u-bolts and the two shackle bolts. Lay them on the ground, clamp them. Take the center pin out. Slowly release clamps, remove leaf. Tighten clamps, replace center pin. Torque to spec.

Grease stupid bushings, reassemble. I've always found it easier to put the front bolt in before the rear bolt. Sometimes the center pin is stupid and you have to to do some weird shit with jacks to get it to go back in the hole. Replace u-bolts, torque to spec.

Edit:Also the stupid parking brake bracket bolt.

How complete is your tool kit? Do you have a torque wrench? Have a set of deep metric sockets? The spring(s) are under tension, respect is advised.

That seems about like how I thought it’d go, so glad to see I wasn’t missing much! Only thing I’m struggling with is deciphering which leaf is the HD one I should pull. While I was searching I saw two different leafs identified as the HD...

I think it's the second after the main leaf.

I have some deep well sockets, but no torch wrench. I am planning on borrowing (hopefully) one of my buddies torch wrench though.

Thanks! I’ll keep doing some research on it, but you’re the second source that said the 2nd so that’s a good sign!
