Hello everyone. Fairly new member here & enjoying all the good information I've been reading! :). After all the reading & research I've done, I've decided on an OME 3" lift for my 2005 DCSB TRD. I'd say 80% highway & 20% off road. Since I'm in CO, probably gonna purchase from toytec, cheap shipping if I don't just pick it up myself. They are about 2 hrs away. Is this a good package??

    886 coils w/trim packer
    90000 front shocks
    Dakar leaf pack
    60091 or N182 rear shocks

Do u think I will need UCA's or extended brake lines? Is the install pretty self explanatory? Any advice/info would be helpful. Or if anyone with more experience has any suggestions that would be great also. Thanks for your time & input.

Are you adding front weight like an aftermarket bumper and winch ?

You're going to need UCA'S most likely due to the fact you'll be at a good 3" with the 886's. Are you adding a bumper? The 886's have a different spring rate I believe for a heavier front end. Extended brake lines would be a good idea with the full 3" you'll achieve with your lift.

I do plan on adding a bumper but not till next year probably. Would I be better going with 885's with spacer to get my 3" for now & just upgrade coils when I get my bumper with winch?

Get 887's with no spacers, and yes wait if it's going to be a year. Then just swamp them out.

Will I need a front diff drop kit? Will the LR UCA's from toytec work for me ?

So if the complete OME kit comes with front diff drop kit, I won't use it? Do u think I'll need some axle shims or anything else??

I'm really interested to see how people respond to this question. I see a lot of different opinions on whether a front diff drop should be done with the 3" lift.

Personally, I'd recommend doing it. I can't speak from experience, but logical thinking leads me to believe I'd want to try to retain as much of a constant geometry on moving parts as possible. I think the diff drop would reduce wear on the CV joints, even if its only 1" drop. It will probably have more wear than stock height, but any reduction in total wear helps.

    Axle shims ~ maybe
Get centre pin collars for the Dakars

I guess I don't recall seeing the 887 coils... I'll talk with toytec when I'm up there to see what they say. Just trying to get an idea of what my list will be & getting my questions for them lined out. Thank you all for your help. Really appreciate it. I'll post b4/after pics if I can. :)

I talked to a friend on this who is much smarter than I am, and he said that based on the design of the front end of our trucks, a diff drop is both unnecessary and potentially harmful because it actually causes induced stress on the axles. He went into more depth about it, but I didn't retain all of it.
Regardless of what you do, know that CVs are bound to need replacement, and it's good for them to be a weak point, rather than a more expensive part. Stress has to go somewhere!

for reference, my OME setup was purchased in 2009 with 886 coils and front plate bumper. Things have changed with shock/struts, but my advice is as follows:

    • You should not need extended brakes in the front. I went and got some, and had to have them shortened. I still have issues with the cables rubbing up against the body of the truck, so I should have them shortened more.
    • Extended brakes in the back is fine, and probably worth doing for the peace of mind. I never measured, but I didn't get 'real' springs in the rear until just now. I was using stock + TSB + AAL, and never had a problem with standard lines, so that doesn't really help you make a determination.

Ok, so I did some more research & found out that the 887 coils are for stock front end but a little stiffer than the 885. So it seems that's the way to go, without spacers like teneighty & OZ-T recommended. Thanks!! :) It looks like the full OME kit from wheelers is about 200$ cheaper but doesn't have the front diff drop kit like toytec, but it does come with a set of bushings for the dakars. I just don't know about shipping tho!! :)

correct, diff drop does little no nothing for 2nd gen trucks.

I ordered from Wheelers, shipping didn't kill the deal, and that was to the other coast.

Geekhouse23. Thanks for that chart. They aren't really stiffer but a little longer & therefor I wouldn't need spacers. :)

Sandman614. That's good to know. I might go that route & pay shipping. Still might save a few bucks!! :)

885's and 887's are the same spring rate just different lengths

So 887 without spacers seem to be a better route than 885 w/spacers. Right??? :)

All this info has really been helpful. Keep it coming!!! :). Lol. Thanks a lot everyone. Getting pretty close to a final decision & ready to order!!! Can't wait to get it all installed.
