I believe the AAL is (Add-A-Leaf) just "one strip" of leaf spring. The OME Springs with U Bolts and bushings contains a full leaf pack. I think there would be 10 leafs (leaves, I don't know which would be correct). I think that answers your question.

Wow! Way to go keeping at 2"! :D Enjoy! There's the group buy going on for Toytec. Their Light Racing UCA's should be really cheap.

So the OME for $699 doesn't really do anything to the rear apart from adding one leaf?

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
Earlier this year my friend Chris convinced me to do a suspension upgrade with OME. I did the front with 886s since I was putting on an ARB bumper, winch, and lights, and a full 8 leaf rear with OME shocks there as well.

After 6+ months of use and putting over 6k miles on the truck I can say that I love this setup. Worth every penny. The truck sits about 2 inches higher now and has much better handling. I can drive confidently and faster down some pretty harsh terrain, and also my highway handling is better also.

Here is a pic of it this summer while out in Arizona...

Can anyone shed any light on the quality between the 5100 and the OME shocks? Which would hold up longer during some intense offroading? Are they both pretty similar?

First of all, let me state the TRD shock look and weigh about the same as a screen door dampener compared to the OMEs. The ride was terrible.

I purchased a set of 5100s but sold them and upgraded to the OMEs. The difference in the hardware is significant with the OMEs being larger in just about every way.

The 5100s are a good upgrade for street IMO but when I received them I knew I wanted something beefier. For me they just weren't enough of an upgrade from the stock to justify the trouble.

Im not sure the comparison between the OME shock and the billy 5100 was very accurate... Just because there is a size difference doesnt mean the science behind it is better or worse. Im on my second tacoma now, and i have yet to have any issues with my bilstiens flattening out on me. Its not the size that matters, its how you rock it, right? lol.

Do we all agree that the difference is $120?

Doesn't the Toytec come with a better warranty? Does that make up the difference?

Your correct. 2 roads of thinking with these 2 shocks.

Bilstien: High Pressure Mono tube design

OME: Low pressure twin tube design.

I have found, though they are the same dampening rates per the specs, the OME offers a slightly more compliant ride on the road, and when pushed off road, the OME doesnt heat up as fast, yet offers more flexability at slow speeds.

I was talking with one of the owners of Metal-Tech about his thoughts on 5100s vs. ICON/SAW/OME.

The general thing is that a 5100 simply lifts you without a real performance gain over the stock Bilstein you just took off. However, an OME or true coilover (such as ICON/SAW/etc) will both provide the lift and give you the performance gain in both off- and on-road applications.

This isn't the only question I asked that day, so I was frantically scooping knowledge into my head with one hand while plugging up the leaks with the other... I might have forgot a bit.

Actually, the Bilstien 5100's are just as much a "real" Co than the others. They ARE leaps and bounds over stock, as they have much more oil than the stockers. And better valving.

So I'm totally getting BS'd? Dang... now I need to create a thread and get my head sorted out.

Is warranty on shocks a concern for any of you?

    5100s have lifetime warranty

OME shocks have a 2 year warranty
