Here is where I am at. I am ready to order my lift kit and tires.

I am going OME. I want the med coils because I want a nice stiff front end, but don't plan on a bumper.

I am going with the spacers to get the full 3 inches up front.

I am still stewing over the AAL or the full new pack of leaf springs.

I spoke to the guy at Discount Tire today who suggested BF Goodrich All-Terrains 285/70R17's. He swore up and down I would have no problems with rubbing unless I plan on getting my truck airborne...which has happened before, but that is another story.

Any thoughts or opinions are welcome.

    eibach 1.6" springs
    toytec 1/4" top plate spacers
    2" AAL
    LR UCA

I went by the tire shop and the guy said I'll probaly still have a little rub with 285s on my stock rims. We're doing a fit test tomorrow, I'll post how it goes

My main reason for posting is this. I want to go with the OME kit. What I don't want to happen is a bunch of other shit I need that no one tells you about.

Will I need anything to go with this set up that is not in the kit?

I hear about wheel spacers, new UPC's, etc.

    Just curious

well, I'm by no means an expert, but I was goin for 3" and ended up with just a little over 3 up front. The truck is almost dead level, and after things settle a bit I'm pretty sure it'll be perfect.

I was on the fence about the UCAs but decided to get them now instead of have a problem later. I did not get the diff drop kit, and thus far have not had any vibes at all, in 2wd or 4wd.

My VSC is acting crazy so I'm going to have to take it in for calibration.

My only problem is that the stock trd offroad rims/tires look too small now. Tomorrow I'm doing the fit test with the 285s. If I can keep the stockers I will...if not I'll get some moto 951s

Vehicle Stability Control...the button on the left side of your steering wheel that has the squiggly tire tracks. It manipulates the brakes to keep you from losing control, if I understand it right

I think your 16's will look fine with the 285's.

Thanks for info on the VSC.

I think I am going to leave out the differential relocation kit. I can always get it later if there is a problem.

The UCA's are out of my budget to do now, but may consider them later.

I am just going with the OME and tires for now. I think I am going to upgrade and get the full leaf pack from OME. I know it is alot, but I think it would be a nice upgrade.

CJH9980, when you say almost level...is the front up or the back up higher than the other?

definitely stay within your budget, you can always add UCAs later if you need them, and you may get lucky and not need them.

Mine is slightly higher up front. You can't tell by looking at it. It's about 1/8 of an inch when measuring @ the wheel wells

From my readings, the difference between an AAL and full replacement is that the AAL adds a bit more bed capacity than stock, the full replacement adds a bit more articulation and adds more bed capacity than AAL. However, you must be careful in that some setups will actually degrade bed capacity. If it's more important to have capacity than it is to have lift, then go airbags or consider a larger truck.

Regarding 285's, it is almost certain that there is trimming involved (fairly easy job), and you would need aftermarket rims or will need wheel spacers to avoid rubbing the UCA.
When I'm headed out for tires, I'm looking at a 265 since I don't want to deal with the hassle, and they may prove better for what I want to do with them.

    BTW, VSC didn't debut until '09. ;)

    Thanks, Mike.

The guy at discount tire is going to try out both the 275's and 285's to see what will work best. If I have to get the spacers, I think I will because I am partial to the look of 285's. The other thing with the 285's I like is, you effectively get a 4" lift with the amount of sidewall plus the 3 from OME kit.

I am looking at doing the OME full upgrade. I trust it will give me a very dependable bed load as well as a firm tail end. I am also very adamant about NOT having a sagging rear end...not today...not in five years from now. I drive the truck like I stole both on and off road.

Thanks for the info about the VSC...mine is an '07 so I guess I won't have to worry about that.

You could still get 285's or as I like to call them 33 in tires and keep the stock width at 10.5 inches...

I don't see why you would need new wheels with back spacing or spacers if all you are changing is the height of the tire and not the width....?

Yeah...no way in hell I am buying new wheels. I love my stock 17's.

Once I get lifted and get down to discount tire, I am sure it will all work out.

I will start my own build thread too to show the progress.

The only thing I dread is the drive from Anna to McKinney after the 3 inch lift with those little, worn down, Dunlop 265's (only a ten minute drive though). :D

I thought a 33x10.5 was most common for 15" rims?

It could be, everyone says on here that you need spacers or new wheels with back spacing if you lift it and get new uca's.

I assuming that is when you are running a 11.5 in or 12.5 in tire.

I have not heard about anyone with 3 in lift, new ucas, running stock wheels and 33x10.50 tires.

Correct, the tire everyone keeps trying to fit is a 285/75/16 or 285/70/17, which is basically 33x11.5

I don't think UCA plays into clearance issues.

I am going with the OME 3" lift and plan on 285/70/17R's. After talking to my mechanic and the manager at Discount Tire, I do not anticipate any problems.

From what I have gathered, people experience problems when they increase width of tires, do not reach expected lift to clear tires, or experience rubbing during extreme 4x4ing.
