I've been reading threads for days. Seems each brand has their fan club, but not many specific threads on the differences between the lower end suspension kits in one spot. If I missed THAT thread...let know where its at (thank you).

3rd Gen 2017 DC LB Offroad with Leer topper. Looking for 3" or under (most likely 2" to keep OEM UCA's). Typical story, daily driving/weekend warrior out hunting/camping/overland. Very limited rock crawling stuff. Don't mind the OR stock suspension, but it is a little soft on-road. Do not want to end up with a really firm (tank) on-road suspension...again daily driver.

Seems there are 3 very popular setups:

OME with Dakar. I'm thinking 887 (or 885) with 90021 (soft) struts and Light Duty 95R Dakars. Problems with OME struts rusting out in snow/salt conditions to worry about?

    Bilstein 5100's with 887 (or 885) and 95R Dakars.

Bilstein 6112/5160s set at 4/5 (or 5/6) and 95R Dakars.

Have read tons of reviews for each setup and guys loving each, but I'm at a loss to which to go with. Has anyone gone from OME to Bilsteins or vice versa and why?

    Thanks in advance.

I have OME 886 on Nitrocharger 90000's in the front and Bilstein 5160's in the rear. Don't go 885 you will regret it. Go 886 or 887 at the least. With 885 you will need spacers to get anywhere near 3 inches and they'll sag even lower over time. I put OME 886's on and could barely feel a difference over my stock TRD sport suspension. Everyone on this forum talking about how unbelievably rough they are is ridiculous.

Both Bilstein and OME are great. 5100's with 887's are a good combo.

I'm biased cuz I have the 6112/5160. What I will say is that 6112 is the largest out of the group 2.65 outer body and 60mm piston and the 5160 has a reservoir which has more ext travel 1.5" or more due to the resi being able to carry that extra oil. A lot more performance in this setup vs the other 2 competitors. You get the performance of a coilover but don't pay the price of one. It's very comparable to Icon stage 2. I might get some heat saying that but hey it's my opinion.

OME is able to bring more lift to the table and the Billie 5100 set at 0 with 887 is a setup that's popular here on the forums and is proven off and on road and is cheaper amongst the competitors.

    Good luck on your choice!!

I know these are kings he's talking about but it's the same concept as why a resi is a good idea to have especially for the rears as they take a beating.

This is exactly my thoughts about these lifting kits.

I am leaning to 6112s and 5160s due to looks and pretty much plug and play.

Also not sure if I am going 2" front and 1" rear.
The 2nd Gen 6112s will give you extra 1" so it will give you 3" front max lift and 1.5" rear.

I wouldn't buy the 2nd gen 6112 and putting them on the 3rd gens. Not valved for it as Bilstein has stated and iirc people have had problems with them cuz they maxed out the lift on them.

Those are my thoughts tho. Do as you please with your truck for those who go this route.

I haven't heard about the problems about 2nd gen 6112s.

Pls educate us Oscolivar1. I would want to know before pulling the trigger... any suggestions and inputs will be much appreciated.
What issues and cons about the 2nd gen 6112s....???

He’s saying buy third gen 6112s which most dealers will send you anyways if you give them your truck details.

What he said. Lol. I wouldn't buy 2nd gen 6112 and put them on my 3rd gen. Bilstein made specific 6112 for us so buy that one. I've had no problems with my setup for the past 3 months since install.

Cons: vulnerable rusting spots from salted roads after snowfall. But they can be easily fixed with any rust remover.

Thanks for posting this as I have had the same question so I will follow this thread, only difference is that I have removed the Bilstein 6112/5160s set from my list, only because I am trying to get wheels and lift in my budget, but if the Bilstein 6112/5160s set is truly the best of the 3 in the long run then I would put my wheels off, but right now i'm leaning towards the OME kit.

Original plan was to run 16x8 +0 on oem tires until tires wear out, then move to a 285/70/16 possibly. If I skip the lift then I'll move to 17x8 +0 with 285/65/17 possibly.

I feel like the extended travel 5100’s with Dakar’s is the way to go. The 5160s don’t have as much travel. I could be wrong. Headstrong.com is the place to go for lifts. Plus the customer service is amazing.

From what I understand there is more travel on the 5160 but i could be wrong. Even if your right I'd rather have the Resi than more travel.
