    X2. On-road ride of my Icons is pretty firm at the factory 2.5" lift setting. The Icons, as with other coilovers, use spherical bearings instead of rubber bushings. Sphericals transmit more road vibrations into the cabin. Hit a big pothole, however, and the Icons are better behaved. :)

    The feeling of a more firm ride comes more from the digressive dampening, rather than the mounts. They will also transmit a little more road noise.

    Toytec Ultimate bolts a threaded collar on the standard Bilstein 5100 shock and uses Eibach springs.

    In order of increasing capability and price:

    Stock TRD Bilstein -> Bilstein 5100 -> OME -> 2.0" dia. coilovers -> 2.5" dia. coilovers

    The "ultimate lift" coilovers have the same performance as standard Bilstein 5100 shocks. They are not as good as OME.

    Toytec coilovers are 2.0" coilovers.....and they are basically in the same category as OME! Get the icons man! If you do a decent amount of off roading you'll eventually wish you had them!

    Damn, going all out......I like the way you think! You could save $500 by getting a different UCA but those are pretty sick and you would be one of few members with them!

    So would it be fair to say Icons wouldn't be used to their fullest on typical mountain offroad trails (<10 mph), versus higher speed desert driving? My coworker just got Radflo COs on his 4runner with 650 lb coils and you feel every little pebble on road. Here in Colorado we don't have long stretches of desert like Socal or AZ. The only thing where I think I would get the most out of Icons would be washboard at 30 mph, which is why I'm leaning toward OME.

    Yes. Mountainwolfpup has the full OME set up, and lives in Oregon, similar terrain as where you are, Im guessing. And he is very happy with the ride. The OME works fantastic in slower situations like that. That being said, you CAN have the Icons valved accordingly, if you wanted. But "Out of the box", the OME would shine in slower situations, and mountain trails.

    Similarly, Fox has progressive valving so they too would work well at slower speeds? However,they are used largely in off-road racing so can take the big hits too? Is this correct? I’m just trying to wrap my head around all the valving info. I know I really like the 5100’s with Eibachs (pretty sure they are digressive). They are firm on road and in corners but on large speed bumps and off-road whoops they soften up. What about “Colorado/Oregon” type of wheeling with rock ledges, etc.? Would Fox be more ideal compared to Icon being they have stiffer compression coming off rocks? Whereas Icons would soften up to fast? (not sure if I’m even explaining it right)

    anny rubbing at all with those 33's im really leaning towards the ICON's here in my part of texas is all Ranch so rocky roads, dirt roads, woody trails we got it all not a lot of hills to travel but enough to flex your truck

    The Fox set ups for racing are differetn, and set up according to the vehicle used. The 5100's are a progressive rate shock. I havent wheeled Colorado, but the OME set up on my first gen was great off ledges. I havent used Fox on it. Some folks have bottomed out Icons when comming down off ledges, though I havent. I read somewhere that Icon has a dampener to help when bottoming out now.

    Cool, I think you nailed it by re-valving the Icons with less slow speed compression. Ideal for both situations!

    I just dropped the truck off to get the stage 3 Icon kit installed this morning.. I had an OME kit on my previous rig (2004 Landcruiser) and I was very happy with it.. I wanted to go the coilover route this time around. I'll get some pics and impressions up once I get it back
