A big one for me was that Marie told me OME were steel bodied, and I fish/camp near the ocean a lot. Didn't want my susupension to prematurely rust.

    Food for thought.

Plus I've always ran bilsteins in my other builds and have had zero complaints

They do. After they warm up some they actually handle nice on the trails.

You could do billies in front with your coils and ome in rear with dakars to avoid extended brake lines and new bumps.
Errrrr....looks like you fgured it out

This is really interesting because I'm considering going with a progressive AAL and king resi to pair with my 5100s up front. What are the advantages to going with resis in the back only?

Would one setup require extended brake lines and one doesn't?

I looked into both a few weeks ago. Ended up with the 5100's. Talking with HS Offroad, was told that the biggest complaint with OME struts and shocks is that they rust really fast.

I haven't installed my package yet. This is the email HS sent me regarding the 2 packages:

Ken, Matt here helping Marie out

As far as the two kits go I wouldn’t say one is better than the other, instead I could offer some additional information about the two brands that might help you with making a decision.

The Bilstein shocks have a monotube design which is different from the OME twin tube gas filled design. With the feel of the shocks I would say the twin tube gas filled might provide a better on road ride over the 5100, specifically the OME soft ride front shocks (90021) in which the compression on those is quite forgiving. The OME feature a larger shaft over the 5100’s which I guess you can say makes them more durable, even though I have never had a customer return a 5100 with a bent shaft. Now the exterior on the OME shocks, this is why I’m personally not too fond of them. The powder coat on them is not so good, nothing like the powder coat on the coils which is great. With it not being so good it tends to chip off real easy and rust. Those that have OME suspension will usually complain about this. The 5100’s on the other hand are zinc coated and so they hold up better to the elements. For me personally I like the 5100 better over the OMEs because of the coating and I prefer the internal design over the dated twin tube design.

Now for the rear, do you need brake lines….

With the OME rear shocks no. The extended length of the shocks does not constitute the need for longer lines, OME did this on purpose.

With the Bilstein kit yes. If getting the kit on our site with the OME Dakar leaf packs this kit comes with the extended rear 5100. The extended length of these shocks will require longer lines and so we include them in the kit.

I don't have any advantages or disadvantages haha don't cheap out on the leaf pack then get the most expensive shocks, because for the same price for nice shocks and a full leaf pack you'll be buying kings. And from what I know from most owners is they don't use the shocks to the full potential
I also know Bilstein 5100 is majority of owners here. So I recommend get you 5100 you front. Rear shocks, full leaf pack and you should have a few pennies left to upgrade something else as well

I've got all four 5100s already. After I put my 265/70/17 KO2s on my ride got really shitty because I'm already sitting on stock coils and 1.55" lift from the 5100s and a 1" block in the rear. Trying to soften up my ride a little bit.

Hmm just avoid ome then because they are really rough. It's weird that you said that cause I never heard someone hate a 5100 ride. But again avoid ome haha I like my fox resi shocks and it's half price of kings and feels good to me.

If you got kings money then by all means get the kings you won't be disappointed if not get icons or Fox's 2.0 and put the money in another modifications

I'm sure the ride would be fine on my 5100s if I wasn't flexing stock springs in the front and back all the time

Marie said : The OME rear shocks will work the Dakar pack and not require bump stop modification or longer brake lines but they limit the amount of droop you see from the Dakar leaf pack. The standard length Bilstein 5100’s really should be used with one of the add-a-leafs or a block up to 1.5”. The extended length RCD/Bilsteins will also work with the Dakar leaf pack but longer brake lines are needed and possible bump stop modification but you get more droop from the pack.
