Sorry for the really repetitive nature of this post. I know there are probably hundreds (and I've read many of them) of threads on which 3" lift to buy, but I'd like to get a little personal input before I jump in and purchase my own. That said, I'll be lifting my 2006 Tacoma Access Cab (pictured below) and wanted to know what you guys like the most; the OME or Bilstein 5100 lift. (Pics would be nice if you have them) I'm leaning the OME direction right now based on what I've seen/heard so far, but would really appreciate your input.

A couple side questions: will I need longer brake hoses and/or new UCA's? Front diff drop or not? And will I have to do a lot of cutting to fit 285/75's? Thanks in advance guys!

    Won't need longer brake lines.
    Might not need any drops.
    Probably will need UCAs.
285s will require cutting, trimming, and welding.

I would go with OME, but both have their fans.

Never have been in one with an OME lift, but i went with the bilstein. I am very happy with it. Tightened up the truck and rides mmuucchh smoother in my opinion. So much smoother that my wife likes to take the tacoma places instead of her rogue.

Heres a pic after the lift. Its the only one i have right now. Plan on taking some more sometime soon though. image.jpg

Thanks for the input! And it certainly looks sweet too. Are you running 265's?

Yea. 265/75/16. Im seriously thing about going to an 20 next year though, i dont wheel my truck any (have a rzr xp for that) so im thinking of going 18's or 20's.

No rubbing at all on my 16's right now. The wheel is a 4.5 backspacing 16x8 with 0mm offset. Just in case you were wondering.

Ok, I have 265/75/16's on my truck right now with no lift and no rubbing. I think I'll be sticking with 16's though, as I plan on doing some wheeling.

Beware of shock top-out with OME struts. This issue is very well documented on many threads. The 5100 strut is longer and valved differently, so it will provide a smoother ride and no "clunk" from shock top-out.

For reference, this is a picture of my old 2006 tacoma with a complete OME lift kit, 885 coils and dakar etc.. I had no top spacers on the front suspension (1/4")

on 265/70/17 and spidertraxx 1,25" spacers. It was rubbing a little in the front mudguard with the spidertraxx spacers on.

The ride was very stiff with the dakars, but i was able to load the bed with almost 2000lbs and the bumpstop wasn't neer touching the frame.

I really miss that suspension setup ecxept for the stiff ride thing.

So you don't feel that the ride is too stiff? BTW, the truck looks really sweet man!

I took the third leaf out when I put the Dakars on. Drops the height a bit and softens the ride. When i first put it on it felt amazing and way better than stock plus able to carry much more weight. I noticed a stiffer ride when I put on LT tires vs the stock P rated. All in all I am very happy with it and would do the same thing again.

Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely keep that in mind when I get around to installation.

What’d you end up using for your 3in AC lift?

I scrapped all previous plans and went with Kings all the way around with Dakar leafs and LSK UCA's.
