I have done my fair share of research on the topic but wanted some specific commentary on the direct comparison of Dobinson’s to OME coils for 3rd gen application.

I currently have Bilstein 5100’s with stock coils set to highest setting giving about 2inches of lift. I think they ride fine, better then stock for sure, and definitely gives more travel then the stock Bilstein 4600’s.

I have regretted keeping stock springs however and am planning on switching them out for new lift springs and putting the circlip back down to the zero notch.

After some research the OME coils, although very popular seem to have caused a lot of sagging issues especially on 3rd gen. The 888 being the longest spring is popular but its spring rate of 590 seems to cause sag. And some say the 886 with higher spring rate gives a stiff ride but more lift around 2.5 inches maybe but I can’t find clear information.

the dobinsons on the other hand have clear information on websites about Lift height, and @Crikeymike has been helpful but I want to hear some real world experience from those who have tried either brand or preferably both.

thank you, Tacoma World has been super helpful figuring this out.

From what I've seen, OME coils settle a lot more from their installed height down to their actual height, so people install them on a weekend, post their results to the forum within 15 seconds, then a month or so later once they're actually broken in and settled, they're 1" shorter than their first measurement. Other people have actually had true coil fatigue or sagging where the coils squat even further, and no one is sure why that happens to the springs, unless they weren't properly scragged at the factory.

The Dobinsons measurements in the real world are well recorded on here. C59-314 springs will give 2" lift on a dual cab short bed with stock weight all day long, and they don't have a big range from the install date until they're settled (they don't settle as far as OME do).

The threads I have on the forum are full of people that have posted their hub to fender measurements at different time, so that would be the place for you to see those.

Just for the agreement point. I have OME installed almost 4 years ago. Still sitting the the same height. OMEspec sheet is spot on on the lift expectations.

@Crikeymike Any issues with putting the Dobi 314 coils on 5100s (w/ clip in the lowest slot)?

They fit on there just fine.

Just keep in mind that Bilstein doesn't give a warranty if non-OEM coils are run with their struts/shocks.

from what i've specifically been told here, the dobinsons will outhandle sports cars, despite the height increase. so if you're routinely drag racing maserati's and lamborghini's, it'll pay for itself, or rather they'll pay for them, at the finish line.
