yeah......it wasnt much. i wasnt really looking to lift the truck anyway..........stock suspension was shot, so i needed to replace. so i decided to go with a bit of a lift over stock. suits my needs just fine.

sweet, do you ever wish you went more for clearance issues?
I'm going to get sliders at the same time as the lift, will I get past most obstacles you've encountered with this setup?

ok great, I just sold my bicycle, and can now either, buy a new bike, or a lift. I want both, but in the long run i think i'd be happier with the truck

    and clean........

and here is all of the stuff i bought when i did my suspension...and the pic is minus the bilstein 5100's.......

what i got......wheelers 5 pack rear leafs(made by alcan spring company), extended u-bolts from wheelers, ome 881 coils, goodridge g-stop braided stainless extended brake lines..all from wheelers, and a bushing kit from energy suspension...because it came with the upper rear spring mount/frame bushings................just to note...the leaf springs i got from wheelers have the good polyurethane bushings already in them. and to add.....get new eye bolts from wheelers.......i wish i had done that. had to cut my damn springs off. and lastly.....bilstein 5100's from downsouth motorsports(a vendor here now).

hope this helps ya out man!:)

It sounds like I'm on the same path as well. I don't plan on going bigger tires, but would like a level look with a ride that is more soft than stiff. In the past, I have really ony hit snow and sand, and it's my daily driver, so MPG and road manners are more important than offroad attitude. My 03 Pre V6 DC has 114k miles and is in great shape, but the springs are shot, so time to fix the rear... which leads to the front.

Will - that's nearly their package:

COMPLETE OME SUSPENSION SYSTEM WITH EVERYTHING YOU NEED for 98-04 TACOMA: $1070.00
Includes shocks, coils, leaf springs, trim packer, greasable shackles and bushings, exhaust hanger, extended rear brake line (DOT Rubber Type) and u-bolts! We include pieces that are normally overlooked by other dealers. Normally we'd supply 881 coils with N91S and N85 shocks but if you have a preference let us know.

I'm looking at that combo (with the Stainless brake line swap) and the Toytec kit here: Will the Toytec be too firm for daily use? I like that OME has the "plush" option.

the ome kit is nice as hell......but its alot more expensive than what i spent on the setup i bought. i kinda pieced mine together, adn the price wasnt really that bad for everything i got. the toytec ultimate kit will be nice man......should ride pretty well.

The Toytec kit looks good, but the new leaf option of the OME is appealing...

when I price out your setup separately, I hit $1016 and I'd have to pay labor for the spring swap. Wanna share your secrets on the deal? LOL

maybe im a little late on saying this, but it looks like the 5100s are around the same price as the nitro shocks, so why dont you just get full OME... I have it in my taco and it couldnt be better

well....it was last summer when i bought it all......probably has gone up since then.....but i installed it all myself, so that didnt really cost me anything....other than getting the shocks swapped onto the coils. the full ome setup is probably more than worth it tho.........lots swear by straight ome.:D

we get discounts from toytec and wheelers....just so ya know.

I didn't know about the discounts. Thanks.

I like the Toytec adjustable coil overs and the 5100s are proven as a good choice, just dunno about the on-road ride quality compared to the 881 OME setup. I know I'd be happy with either... that's the rub - I am bad at these types of decisions.

Just one last question on this thread, please. I am about to install 5100s on the front of mine and plan for an ARB front bumper and winch in the future. Would you recommend I stick with the stock springs and 2.5" setting on the shocks until I get the bumper or go ahead with the 882s and low setting now? Are the 882s stiff enough that it would be really uncomfortable with the stock bumper? By the way, I have the 2.7L engine. Will that make a difference? I mean should I be looking at the 881s instead, even with the ARB and winch? Also, I saw on Yotatech that some people recommend Tundra springs. Any thoughts on that for a gen 1 Tacoma?

if you are getting a bumper....i'd go with the 882 coils for sure....that way, you'll have less sag.....since they are a heavy coil.

Well, I plan on the bumper, but probably down the road 6 months or so. Will the 882s rattle my teeth loose if I install them now? It will save me some work if I install them now when I change out the shocks, rather than having to do it all again in a few months, but if the ride is going to be really rough, I'll stick with the stock springs, even if they are sagged a little, until I get the bumper and winch. If anyone has tried the 882s with a standard bumper, I'd like to hear what you think.

Ok, now another thing. I just read the ad on Wheeler's site again and noticed that the 882 is recommended ONLY for Tacos with the V6, bullbar, and winch. Now I'm thinking I should go with the 881s, even with an ARB bullbar and winch, since I only have the 2.7L four-banger. Am I going in the right direction? From what I am reading, I should be able to use the 881s even before I get the bullbar and just get a stiffer, but tolerable, ride. Yes?

Also, since I have the Skyjacker 2.5" leaf packs in the rear, maybe the 881s will be a little better matched to them. Eh?
