Not the engine light, the maintenance required light is flashing. Only on start up, then it quits.

Just did the oil change with filter about 4600 miles ago, including U-joint lube.

Glad I have a long weekend coming on, I hate to spend time running through diagnostics, parts and repair. I was hoping to have a beer laden weekend.

    Any thoughts to the problem???

It means it's time to change your oil in about 400 miles when you hit 5000 miles... that is all

Whats the best oil to use and viscosity?

    What is the best filter?

Can I just dump the used oil along the fence line to kill weeds?

According to my dealer, the reminder comes on every 5000 miles so you bring it in for their 120 point checklist. The oil needs to be don e every other time.(10,000 miles) I was just there yesterday and asked that specific question. Under his breath he told me the salesmen don’t even give out the right info. I change mine every 5000 so I dont care but I was curious.

Thanks. Think I'll consult the Owner's Manual for interval, recommended oil grade and viscosity.

    C'MON FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!

Just put the OD on trip A, hold the button, and turn the key to the on position. You’ll see 6 zeros begin to go across the OD. The light will be reset now.

    Guilty.... :anonymous:

Yeah, I tossed out some obvious bait. Caught a few. :D

FWIW, I'm quite knowledgeable about maintenance on my '06 Tacoma.

    Sunuvabitch you got me!!

I prefer to use diesel fuel to kill weeds instead of ISO VG460 (best Taco oil) oil actually... penetrates the ground a bit better and if someone throws a cigarette on in there it gets the job done even faster!

Please....Don't anyone dump used motor oil to kill weeds. Use the proper products. Used oil needs to be given to the oil recyclers.

IIRC, just about every state has a law that requires anyone who sells motor oil must accept used oil for recycling.

Top Gear never did any maintenance on the Hilux they tried so hard to kill, so I really wouldn’t be concerned about skipping it with normal driving.

There was a guy here with an independent repair shop. He used waste coolant as weed killer, until OSHA caught him. He's not a business owner any more.

Keep in mind, this was inside of city limits, so I completely agree with the fines OSHA slapped this dumb crap with.

On a semi related note. The dealer keeps contacting me about needing to come in for servicing. I've asked them to stop several times and just get contacted by someone different the next time.

Even if I wanted to, I wouldn't take it to them. It's a 3 hour drive one way, and they aren't even a Toyota dealer.

This thread is pretty funny. I knew a guy who poured atf in the ground around his condo to prevent termites from eating his place up...
