Haven't seen the law change yet. Dealer incentive is to get their advertising on there.

I have had more tickets for not having a front license plate than I I have fingers. Didn't really cause too much of a problem. Just paid the fine, got the fix it ticket signed off, then removed the plate and crossed my fingers and hope to slide under the radar for a little longer. Hard to do with a variety of 450+ rwhp mustangs. Then my disregard for the law caught up with me during my oral interview for the CHP. They had pulled my driving record and ask me if I had a problem with adhering to the California vehicle code. I was honest and told them that I worked hard to afford specialty vehicles and I simply didn't like the way front license plates made those vehicles look. I thought I was done. Nope, they appreciated my honesty and off to the CHP academy I went! Ironically the individual who questioned my ability to adhere to the ca vehicle code in regards specifically to front license plates...well that guy I noticed 4 months later getting into a bright yellow z06 sans lic front lic plate. I just laughed. And to be clear I have never issued a front license plate ticket to anyone.

It's just classified as a minor infraction, right?

So many people put them on their dash thinking it's legal. Pretty sure it's not since it's at an angle that is not clearly visible. Is it at the officers discretion? Just curious.

Dealer I went to didn't know they had the truck I bought in their inventory because it was still in the back. Luckily they didn't or I'm sure the license plate frame would've been put on before they put it out on their lot...

It's a fix it ticket. Law says securely fastened and clearly visible. I guess if you drilled it to you dashboard and had it angled upwards you could have a chance in court...but doubtful. The kicker is when people automatically think that is has to be deemed a correctable violation...not true. You can get a fix it ticket that is checked as non correctable...those would be instances like myself which would be considered persistent negligence.

But to confirm my statement, have you ever used that as a reason to pull someone over?

Nope. I was the CHP officer most hoped to be pulled over by. More than likely if you were polite and courteous to me and you were not drunk/drugged, no seatbelt wearing or putting others in danger, then you got a warning. In all fairness I have used lesser observed violations as pc to pull over to check sobriety. But, if they were good to go then they got a warning for those violations...window tint, lic plate lights, items hanging from rear view mirror, etc.

The trucks don't come with the front license plate mount installed. In order to install it, you need to make holes in the bumper for it to attach.

If you live in a place that does not require front plates, having those holes in the bumper could be a pisser.

NM doesnt issue front plates, but they like to plant a dealer advertisement on the front of brand new cars. I bought my truck in OR and it had the plate mounted before I picked her up.

My salesman (Atkinson Toyota, Dallas) not only stopped them from putting on the front license plate, but also stopped them from washing the vehicle. Kudos!

My dealer did the same thing. Left the plastic on until I got there. Then had it unwrapped and washed and let me further inspect it.

@crispy77: I bought the items at Home Depot to try to replicate your instructions. How has yours been holding up to the wind pressure under the truck? Do you still have the air dam installed, or did you remove it?

No issues so far its all pretty sturdy. Right now the air dam is on but my RCI skids have shipped so whenever I get around to installing them the air dam will be removed. Possibly at that point I'll modify which holes I've used to mount the bracket.
