For OBW set-ups with tanks, how are you guys filling the tanks? garden hose? just pouring in via a funnel? what mechanism do you have in-place to ensure you don't overfill and then overflow?

My tank is in the bed, so I just use a hose and look in to see how full it is. I actually run it through an RV filter into the tank, and then have second filtration after it goes through the HP exchanger to both offer filtration redundancy and in case something happens in the exchanger, at least I might not kill myself.

ahh I'll have a black tank built into a storage system so won't have direct line of sight to see how full it is. any other ideas?

I've seen some guys plumb in a fill cap in the bed, like you see on some boats. Without having some form of a float gauge, I think this would be the best bet and just stop filling when you see water get near the top of the fill cap.

Hopefully this takes you to the right page (page 3 is where you can see what I'm talking about re: the filler cap). I actually think this was a marine grade cap, but it's been years since I read that thread. https://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/on-board-hot-water-shower-system.72802/page-3

EDIT - I'm not sure if your tank with be exterior/interior. Makes a big difference b/c if exterior, just let it overflow, then stop filling. Interior, pay close attention.

Here is a link to the quick connect that he uses. I would like to do something similar, but less expensive. https://www.amazon.com/Jabsco-31911...RC2PH2GEDK7&psc=1&refRID=Q4E09G254RC2PH2GEDK7

A 5-gallon bucket with a sponge would probably be just as good as a backpack sprayer! J/K. A cold shower on a cold night is just miserable. I used to do a lot of camping in the desert and I had one of those solar heater tanks. It got cold so fast once the sun set, it made every shower freezing and I hated it. That's why I went with this option.

Has anybody been running the heat exchanger for more than a few years? Any maintenance or adverse effects at this point? I haven't had any issues, but am wondering if I need to flush at some point.

All your posts are bashing waterport. Did it break when freezing or did it break off and the "whole thing busted"?

Personally, I think you're full of shit.....

Thought you were kind of being a dick until I realized that dude just joined two days ago and has literally done nothing but search the forum for any mention of waterport and then talked shit about it. Now you've got me on your side!
