I'd have to give it a solid 6 as compared to the previous three Toyotas I've had. I'm content with the 236hp, but dam do I wish we had the option of the 4.6liter v8 that's in the new tundra (310hp/327lb torque).....this would make it a solid 10 for sure. The dual vvti 4.0 in the new 4runner would get it closer to an 8.

What gets to me is the fact that when I looked under the hood of my Taco, I realized that it could easily fit an extra .6 of a litre in the bay!

(And even the Colorado/Canyon had an available 5.3 V8 in it's last years of production!)

5100's all around with OME 884 at 0. Weathertechs, Carhartt seat covers. BFG KO2's 265/70/17. T4R SEMA wheels. 18% tint on front windows. General Springs HD 4 leaf pack, Leer 100 XR shell.
6-7 out of 10. Its fine for what I need though so it makes no difference if it had more power.

    better mpg is another thing....

No. CVs are all done and turned out I got to buy a new tie rod yesterday too which was great... or not. Need to buy a new hub too one of them is toast. The transmission hasn't been looked at yet, probably this week. The tick is the second hand on my watch, waiting for your dumb ass to put those parts on so I can hear them!

The 4.0 is a cute engine. The hum it makes while cruising is soothing. I give it a 10 and has enough power for me. I like the all around performance and power its hooked to a 6speed so I have control of the power band. I can chirp the tires going into 2nd from 1st :D

I would rate the power at a 7-8. Eight being when I need it to be an 8.

It's one of the better Toyota engines I've had. Best being the 5.7 in the Tundra.
I'll give it a 7, my Dad's Lexus has basically the same engine, and it makes way better power the my 4.0.

I just bought a 14 trd access cab manual 4.0. Here is how I see it... u need more power. Just knowing you can have your engine supercharged is enough to start a savings account solely for it. I am..along with suspension and everything else...lol

I like to compare the new Tacoma to other trucks I have owned.
    I traded in a 1998 F-150 with a 4.6L V8.
The Tacoma has more horsepower than the old F150 and it would also pull away from it.
I do miss the sound of that V8, it was a little better on gas too, the Tacoma is a 4x4 so I knew this before buying.

    5 vehicles in my driveway,
    2 Silverado, 5.3 & 6.0
    1 Camaro LS1
    1 Ford van 5.4
    1 2014 Tacoma TRD V-6
    All automatics.

    The V-6 Tacoma gets a 6 out of 10.......
It's no V-8 but the truck gets out of its own way.
Have not pulled the trailer with it, not sure I will.

I traded a 2013 Camaro for the Tacoma (it was too low and hard to see out of for this old man), 3.6 V-6 made 323 HP.

Sad part is the 2011 4 door Z-71 and the 2001 Camaro get better gas mileage.

About a 7. Plenty of power, but you really should either have another fifty to seventy five horsepower from an engine this size, OR you should be seeing another five to seven mpg.

In terms of get up and go? I think my 2012 Siena mini van would smoke my taco. Compared to the van I give it a 7.
