This. And doesn't seem to adversely affect MPG.

I do a lot of highway driving and don't have any issues.

Essentially all other midsize trucks are around the same HP/TQ. Ridgeline, Frontier, Colorado, etc. There is no sugar coating with anything. There is really no need. It is powered for the intended purpose of the truck. These aren't work trucks. Not 20' trailer towing powerhouses. Why can't people get this through their heads. You need that, get a full size.

Forget the few negative feedbacks....nothing man made is perfect, but Toyota is close and sells more than 10k Tacomas a month. Buy one, you will love it!

I love my Tacoma 3.5 Auto. It will go anywhere I want and will haul my klr if I want without issues. It drives great for what it is.

The 3.5L us fine for the truck. I just wish there was an option to get the 4.7 gears in the transfer case instead of these BS 2.57s

We need a bw1356 swap, still won't have the crawl you want but it's manual and will never break under Tacoma loads.

That’s one thing I envy about Wranglers. Bolt on 4:1 from Rubicon’s.

test drive the 3rd gen a bunch, then try some full size ones. Full sizers allow more payload if you are a highway driver mostly. Ford full sizers get comparable mileage.

I have a 2016 4Runner with 10,000 miles. (4.0L) I have a 2018 Tacoma Off Road 5700 miles. (3.5L) OMG the 4Runner is so smooth through the gears. Say no more.

Yes, just yesterday. It helped but still has a long way to go. Makes me wander if they really flashed it.
It's odd to me that the two can be so far apart. Both are great trucks, just different.

interesting. there should be a sticker under the front of the hood on the passenger side, just to your left of the hoods latch when you open the hood. Seems like this 3rd gen engine does its thing at high rpms. I do miss full size truck v8 power, but I have gotten used to the taco. I do not pull anything though. Just haul a 500# 4 wheeler a couple times a year. It does that ok, but the 1500 silverados I had since 2000 did it much easier. However, the Taco (OR DCSB) shines in the narrow woods dirt roads and rocky hills here. I would have definitely turned around on some dirt roads if I had been in our old stock '14 LT silverado. I could have took the air dam off etc, but the break over angle with stock tires....bottomed out all the time, width of it meant always getting scratched by bush.

I asked service writer if he put a sticker on it. He said sticker were only for recall updates, not customer request. My ticket was vague to me also.

My no charge invoice says -

    1374 W45
    5690 EG1811 0.40 Reprogrammed ECM

    What do you think?

Sorry OP - I don't want to derail your thread. I'll repost this in another thread.

I would say more: The Tacoma is a TRUCK with a truck geared HD transmission designed to pull 6800#. Each has its own place but cannot apple to apple compare.
