The reverse fill is a great idea! I wouldn't run the pump for 20 gallons straight though. Maybe 10 then rest since it's not a full duty pump. It has thermal protection but i like to play it safe

Look into this for your splitter. Thank me later ;)

Although is get the one with 1/4" threads and hard connect everything. But just a starting point

Edit* scratch that its an industrial fitting. Mine are universal. Not sure if they are cross compatible or not. Goes back to just getting threaded instead. But youll need a way to close the 2nd output fully

Yeah, and I'd guess it would take a while, too.

You could run an intake hose from the tank into the interior of one of the bed cubbies as a permanent fixture. In the cubby would be a fitting to which you'd attach another hose (garden hose?) to fill it up.

I see it. I'll research this down the line. The splitter is a low priority for me. My first big trip is coming up March and realistically I'll be fine without a splitter. I'd only need the warm water once a day for a shower, and that's not too much hassle so swap the hoses. Will figure things out eventually...

I would like to use this system (or a very similar one) to fill a mounted tank from a stream or lake, in addition to using the pump as intended to provide water for cooking and cleaning. The tank should hold only clean water. The pump should only pump clean water. So the water needs to be filtered as it comes from the dirty source. Does the pump have enough suction to pull water through a filter? Has anyone done this?

The pump provides enough suction to lift water 4 vertical feet. Pulling from a stream is doable, but you would need to be within a reasonable distance and not be uphill from the source. As for sucking through a filter, i have not tried it, but would advise against it because youll likely damage your filter. The kit already comes with a strainer for large particles and debris, but a purification filter is usually made of a 0.1 to 0.01 micron element which would be damaged with heavy suction. They need gravity feed or even light suction, but i dont think they would hold up to a pump. If you use a charcoal type filter, you'll lose purification because water wont sit inside the filter long enough to be effective. Having a filter before this pump would probably not only damage your filter, but will deprive the pump and also damage the pump. The larger the pump the more damage would result to both filter and pump. To avoid damaging the pump, you could place your filter after the pump, but then youll be certain to damage the filter. I would suggest a 5 gallon bag similar to what is used for solar camp showers that hang from trees and are gravity fed.. fill this with your dirty water, hang from a tree or roof rack or anything you have, let thr dirty water gravity feed through the purification filter into your clean water reservoir and then pump out clean water from there. Takes a lot longer but if your risking serious disease and illness by drinking compromised water, you want to be certain that your following the best filtration methods possible. Id recommend looking into filtration methods and options. You can get prefilters and then purification filters inline after. The gravity feed from a bag is very ideal. Check it out
