It's because of this build thread we're at least investigating the cost of building a house when we get out to Eastern Oregon. It'd be great to be completely off-grid, too. Maybe a pipe dream, I dunno.

I showed the thread to my wife. Now she's glued to those "tiny house" shows on HGTV. What have I done?

But your build out there in the real mountains... awesome!

Is your blocking in your wall framing a normal framing method in your area or backing for vertical siding or something ?

I'm not trying to pick your work apart just curious about building details in other areas

I was assuming the end walls are acting as the shear walls and the extra blocking was to make up for the lack of collar ties above.

Not a normal framing method. I put those in so there'd be something substantial to nail the 1x12 vertical siding boards to. I didn't trust just nailing them into the exterior sheathing.

LOL, I was waaay off with my guess.
I had to go back and refresh my memory, you're using the second floor loft area to keep the walls together, right?

Does the loft extend more than halfway?

Also not questioning your work. Just trying to learn from it.

Board and batten is what I'm doing. The blocking kinda screws up the ability to blow insulation in.

Just a bunch of old crap
I'd run LEDs in that for lighting with low amp draw, and go solar. Maybe a generator as a backup plan, but try to go solar as primary especially in the summer.

Spray in foam before the walls are closed up? After all the utilities are run?

Run some piping for empty conduit as well, just in case you ever wanted to pull something else?

Will there be a cover over the doorway and front windows? Something to shelter from elements?
