I think one reason the Tacoma's overall value holding percentage was at 49 instead of higher like we assume is because the different models depreciate differently, but were all rolled into one for the sake of simpleness. From my research this year, the double cabs hold their value the best, next the access cabs, then regular. After that it goes 4x4, PreRunner, regular 4x2. So a regular cab 5lug depreciates much faster than a 4x4 DC of the same year. Most 2gen Tacomas are DC, by the way.

But yeah, one reason I love the Tacoma (and have for years!) is it's amazing resale value. In fact when doing research to buy my next vehicle I looked at a few different trucks - including jeeps - and calculated out which one would be a safer bet in case of a money emergency. It turned out because of the Tacoma's great resale value, I had a much larger cushion from going upside-down on the loan than any other vehicle. That means a lot to me.

Wow thy do ask more than that in Denver but yeah I should have clarified a little better, I often forget about the new jk wrangler, when I think about or talk about a wrangler I am referring to a tj which is still about 14-18k for a good rubicon with low miles.

Oh the older jeeps, great, my sister has an 01 that runs amazing, I was referring to the new body style, prone to electrical issues, etc. Think the change was in 07 or 08 if I believe.

I had a 2007 Tacoma that was written off and the insurance company said it was worth $29000- I only paid $26000. Equals negative 11.5% depreciation. Can't ask for much more!

Traffic was coming to a stand still on the highway when i looked back and realized the truck behind wasnt going to stop and then the truck was hit. I was hit by a 1997 dodge ram dually with a full stee bumper. the cop said he hit me at a speed of about 50 mph. He actually tried to take off and his truck died out about a block away.

Luckily no one was hurt except the truck gladly insurance took care of it all

Doesn't surprise me with the jeep's. I had 2 2006 wranglers before my taco and one was a wrangler x i paid $15k for and it got totalled 6 months later and the insurance gave me $18k for it and let me get my tires, radio, and spot lights off of it. Loved my jeeps but wouldn't go back now that I have my Tacoma. A jeep is a second car, you don't want one for a daily driver.

totally agree on this...I want a 2 door jeep right now for a toy and use my tacoma as my daily driver. I'd take the top off, garage it with a cover when not in use, and only drive it on "convertable" days.
