TACO Limited is change the factory tires to All Terrain. I looked at all of the 2016 tacoma configurations and what clearly stands out is that the tires that come with the truck are mainly for highway driving. The only exception is the Tacoma TRD OR which come with OR road tires.

You would think Toyota would supply better OEM tires for all 4x4 Tacoma's.

You have to keep in mind who the limited is marketed for and those Michelin's are actually great tires, I implore you to do some research. Beats the current tire selection. I will say my Bridgestones have performed well in all seasons so far. The Grandtreks however are a joke. I hate to be crude but some of you guys have some ridiculous expectations.

The most logical reason they didn't include "better" tires is because the truck is being mass produced. Also the selected tires probably provide better fuel economy and not many people take a brand new truck off road.

You could actually say the same about most auto manufacturers. Most of them are not trying to put the very best tire on their vehicles, rather simply use a decent tire from the tire company that won the bid.

I could be wrong but I thought Ford was using Toyo AT2's on their SD's...I think.

You would be getting rid of a tire that cost 200$ a piece at many shops and lasts well over 100k miles. The limited Tacoma comes with LTX M/S2's. I've taken them off road and they performed much better than you might think. One of the best light truck tires made today.

Understood. But here are my feelings. If I am going to buy a 40+ thousand dollar truck then I would expect something a little better lookin than those Michelins OEM tires. That is not to say they are not good tires, but apperence means just as much to me as performance. I have done my research on tires and I will agree with you that the Grandtreks are worthless but they do look good but their performance is terrible. There are several tire brands out on the market which I think are much better than the OEM Michelins. One such tire is the Yokohama Geolandar. These are excellant tires for all terrain. This is my second pair on my 2006 tacoma and the first pair I got a 100,000 out of them with the proper tire rotation. Also they look like real truck tires with a bit of aggressive tread. I will not be doing a lot of off roading, however I do from time to time have to drive my truck in the back of my yard which has a slant incline from the back of the house. Sometimes the grass is damp or slightly wet and I have to put the truck in 4 wheel drive when maneuvering up the incline. Well that is my story and I am sticking to it

You have to consider the manufacture's view from an economical standpoint. Yes, there may be a better tire option for the truck, but it isn't worth the extra cost to supply them. Not everyone enjoys an aggressive looking tire. The older individuals may consider the tire to be road noisy or just don't care for the looks. I'm sure many people just want the vehicle to get them to their location and back. Not everyone in this world is about appearance and having the best of the best. If you don't like the tires that come with the truck, buy some new ones. It's that simple :bananadance:.

Why don't you negotiate the tires you want when you purchase? Most dealerships sell different brand of tires.
We did that when we bought a Jeep a few years back.

When you buy a limited it is assumed you won't be leaving the pavement and prefer a comfortable ride and good economy tire, as opposed to having any real need for an aggressive AT tire that says "hey, look at how tough my truck looks because of the tires on them"...

I agree with these guys, on my '04 Tundra these were the only tires that went over 30k miles. For normal light duty off road use (i.e fire roads and crappier fire roads etc) they were great. And they were quiet on the highway as well as efficient - had better MPG than the Geolanders for sure. For use on a 'limited' this si the perfect tire IMHO. When you pull them off ship them to me, I'll use them :)

Since I used my truck as a daily driver and a back road explorer. I have two sets...one for mostly pavement (Cooper A/TW) and the other for back woods (Cooper STT).

A lot of guys ditch the stock rims, so you can can pick up an extra set on CL pretty cheap. Having two sets of tires...really extends the life out of them (as in years, not mileage)

I think you may be mistaking the Limited for the Sport. The Sport is the one with the Hood Skewp

I had a set of Geolanders on my Taco and switched to the Michelin LTX. Looks aside, the Michelin's are much better tires than the Geolanders. You are spending more money for a cheaper tire just for looks seems like a waste of money.

    Why is this a discussion?

Throughout my life, all the people I know who buy new vehicles, have to change the tires out pretty quick. They are like the printer cartridges or batteries you get with certain items right out of the box, not made to last the full life.

The cost of tires compared to a new vehicle are negligible.

Lets whine about things much harder to fix. Like no power seats.

The first thing I'm gonna do when I get my taco is drive it around the neighborhood and wave at my 4 neighbors who have a Gen 2.
