I don't have a Frontier at the moment but looking to purchase one later this year or early next year.

6'-2" and I drive a 2016 DCSB. The seats suck.

I'm 6"3. It's the only thing that makes me hesitant to buy. I love the truck. But Damn. I can drive in one position. Seat tilted back, close to the pedals.

I have seat partially reclined and slide all the way back to be comfy. I rarely drive it though. I have a F150 too and basically drive it at all times. Way more comfortable.

I have no complaints about mine, but I have the moving stick. Tows my enclosed great, rides well and sucks up a lot of road imperfections, seats are perfect for me (5'10), technology has been great as well. Only option that would've been nice is a heated steering wheel. Other than that I've been more than happy with my purchase so far

I don't see the complaints. And when you say for 35-40k you should get much more... What do you mean? That's fairly standard pricing for loaded midsize trucks. Toyota doesn't move as much as GM would on pricing, but what do you want? A Dclb trd with all bells and whistles for $25k?

The 3rd gen doesn't seem like much of an upgrade from the 2nd gen from my perspective. A smaller motor with no low end torque, same c-channel frame that is still probably prone to rust, same drum brakes, same plastic bed. To me this "new" model doesn't justify a price hike.

    Really
Cosmetically (at least on interior and the ass end) it is an improvement. In every other aspect, particularly performance, I'd say it is a downgrade

Mine has plenty of get up and go. Maybe because it's a manual, but I've smoked a friends manual 2nd gen in my 3rd. I mean what are they supposed to change with the bed? Kind of like saying this damn truck still has 4 wheels. Interior is much better, more creature comforts, better fuel mileage, not mentioning a new engine (for tacos), and complete body redesign. What were you expecting?

If Ford brings a real offroad version of the Ranger, no GM's mall boss version is not a great offroad truck, then Toyota will be left with a truck with few distinctions other than it's badge. That could be very tough on sales over time.

It's refreshing to see an honest and critical review and, overall, the reviewer identifies the key strengths and weaknesses of the 2016 Tacoma. I take issue with just a couple of points. First, gear shifting has dramatically improved from the previous generation version and is pretty good overall. Also, while there is a disheartening lag in accelerator response, that too has improved from the last model. Finally, the reviewer fails to mention the competition. Compared to a the ten-year-old Frontier design and the over-priced and underwhelming GM mid-size truck, the Tacoma seems to be the smart choice. I'm very happy with mine.

Wonder how his review of the powertrain would of been with a manual transmission.

I would agree with this review. Seems spot on to me. High marks on off-road capability, style and technology, low marks on power train and some other minor matters.

Toyota could have done a lot better than this.

If the main gripe about the GM mid-size truck is the seating- that's an easy fix. Eaaaaasssy.
If the main gripe about Toyota is power train- not so easy.

Go to the Colorado forum and read recalls, complaining. And please do go and test drive that plastic dated piece of crap interior. I'd be willing to wager right now whatever you want that these '16 Tacos end up doing just damn fine and long term better than GM twins. And for all you ford guys, what the hell is stopping you? They'll give you fair trade. Why wait for an unproven ranger??

Well they will be sorely disappointed with the 2016 Tacoma then. I test drove the Colorado Duramax and the powertrain is a dream on that truck compared to the Taco

I'm not rushing to buy another truck as I'm content to flog my 3rd gen like I would any truck that I've owned. However if after 3 years I don't like it, or something else comes along, meh.... Away it goes.

    Time will tell.

I prefer the interior on the Tacoma but at this point if Toyota doesn't make some huge strides on this truck in the next year, I'll be leaning toward a new Canyon. They look sharp too. Better than the Colorado IMO. A couple bumper and suspension mods she will be in good shape. Love the exhaust brake too! My buddy owns a GM dealership in AZ so I will be in good shape to get one at rock bottom pricing.
