One of the reasons I bought a Tacoma instead of a GM or other brand...

Previous experience with Toyotas, especially in the area of "sturdiness" and need for less maintenance than some other brands.

Weird that Scion is more than Toyota (especially considering it is a Toyota). They are pretty simple vehicles...

We'll see how the gen 3 fairs in time with the low trans fluid.

Let's hope this holds up. So far quality control seems to be dropping off from previous generations

And that is just a maintenance, presuming everything goes smooth without issues, pretty much oil and breaks. In real world with brands like Mini, VW, Land Rover, etc., price will increase dramaticall over 10 years.

Sometimes who owns a vehicle influences the cost of ownership. I'd guess the demographic on Scions is generally pretty different than 'Toyota' as a whole.

Mine didn't come with low trans fluid, just drove 2,000 miles this week no issues. Time will tell.

Doesnt suprise me on the German brands. I have friends who own BMW and Mercedes. Those cars spend a good amount of time in shops.

Edit: Toyota's camry and corolla are probably the lowest maintenance if any vehicle on the market. Those two vehicles will influence Toyotas overall score.

It's the first year of a new generation. Shit will obviously improve. It's not like everyone is having problems. In fact most aren't. I know is hard not to get caught up in the 3-4 guys who complain daily, but that's not the norm.

What have they dogs. 80k Tacomas or more. Few complainers online isn't a huge deal.

You ain't-a-kiddin'. I have had 4 BMWs, and even with my own fixing hands, or my buddies to help, it still was costing me an arm and a leg when things broke. Bought a Toyota and never looked back.

Never saw so many major systems issues on the forums with the 2005 as we are seeing with the 2016 bottom line.

How many people thought to come on a forum in 2005? I didn't even know what a forum was in 2005 and I'm younger and into technology.

Time will tell. Not a busy forum where people come looking for help.

High on the cost list because of shop time and parts cost but..........

Very few Euro, and especially Euro lux owners are DIY types. (more the Mini/M3 racer crowd)

So labor, and more expensive parts. And labor rates are usually higher, and often only dealers have specific specialty tools required for certain procedures.

So while the survey and real world expense is accurate relationally speaking, do the owners really care? If they do, they over bought.

It's like someone with a $40k offroad truck complaining about rust on their brake drum surfaces.

Get rid of any German car before 100k miles.

Not because they are necessarily bad cars, but routine parts start wearing out and the replacement prices can be astronomical.

The alternator went out on my buddy's BMW X5 at 110k.

    Water-cooled alternator replacement cost? $1400+!!

A couple of months later a front suspension part went out at over $2k.

    He traded it after that.

And no discussion of German cars can be complete without this pic, as it says more than words ever could...

Audi S4 timing chain setup. It's on the back of the engine, up against the firewall, and yes, it is problematic.

Looks like fun to replace, eh?

Holy S#$T............................... If I didn't have the funds to support a german beast like that, I would be :bikewhoops: out of ownership with it.

Owned one of those E46 M3's for a year. Best car I have ever owned and driven. Never smiled so much while driving to work....

I find it funny how it costs less to maintain a Lexus than a Honda, that tells me paid off fan boys.
