Next time you see one, look closely and you'll see a hack job with a ton of silicone or a thick rubber gasket that will eventually leak or a lot of body work to massage and flatten the humps. This takes away from the rigidity of the roof though and is not recommended by Toyota. I have seen Toyota not cover warranty when this is done. Most dealerships don't do this, and none should do this prior to the initial sale of the vehicle.

What if you are on the street, drive through an intersection and someone T-bones you? If your hand happens to be there, which mine is a lot when on the passenger side, you get hurt.

You have the ability to disable it any way.

One thing though, on the 2013 Tundra, that button disappeared. I was told it automatically disables when 4x4 is engaged. WTF? What if I am using 4wd in snow on the road? Maybe it is only at a slow speed that it is disabled?

A powered rear window would be legit. Jealous of those Tundras

From what a truck should be perspective...

Better rear springs that support a higher load capacity.

Stronger tailgate, with better internal structure.

Rear discs would be nice too

I won't even go into creature comforts and modern conveniences, most mentioned here were on point... but heated mirrors for sure.

    DIESEL DIESEL DIESEL!!!

I just got my truck not to long ago, but I won't be looking to upgrade anytime in the far off future unless they put a diesel in it. The Tacoma's brother the Hilux has it.

also key less factory tailgate lock :)

It's 2016, I mean two thousand freakin sixteen man. Back when I was a kid in the 80's we'd have half expected to see flying tacomas that could transport us back in time to Nov 5, 1955 by now. WTH.

Power rear window...preferably full window like I've seen on some Tundras
Manual rear slider practically useless in a DC unless your freakin' Manute Bol.
Yes, pulling over and getting out every time I want to open or close it is just great(sarcasm).
If only all the windows could work like that, maybe place all window controls outside of the truck out of the drivers reach.

And yes,I'm illustrating absurdity by being absurd.

Hell, that's why I got the Tacoma is because of it's simplicity. When/if something breaks it is rather easy and logical to sus out the issue. I had a '13 highlander before the '14 tacoma and it scared me at much I was relying on computers. Yes, I know my truck had a ton of them but for instance, twice in 2 months with the highlander I had to disconnect the neg battery cable to "reset" everything because say, the door unlock proximity sensor wouldn't work (yes the bat in the fob were brand new) or when you could get in, the push button start wouldn't work. I know it's small stuff but in the first 2 months it shouldn't have these glitches.
Back on track -I would like auto up/down on all 4 windows. I have a kit (a box w/ a ton different colored wires and pages of instructions for wiring what to where. I just haven't been brave enough to try.

Simply said (and just one request ) ,,,,,,,,,,, MODERN POWERTRAIN PLEASE.

Toyota motor company, the kings of parts bin sharing( shrewd, smart ) uses so many little things commonly used both seen and unseen in the Tacoma and that's great business sense. But, a "new" engine / trans that they ( rumor mill info I know ) are going to offer the 3.5L V6 derivative that has been in the Lexus IS350 since 2005. Back then, it was a good engine no doubt(except for the valve spring recall). Yes, that engine with a 6sp auto would motivate a Tacoma nicely(306 hp / 277 ft/lbs) and pick up the MPG a bit as well but a little innovation is long long overdue.

I'm not paying for more Taco-tick, 17 mpg, pinging on regular grade fuel at sea level.

Power rear window, one of BenWa's kits that he put together a couple of years ago, I managed to get an un-installed kit recently and love it.

I currently have a 2003 tacoma 4wd, and have had two 2000-2006 access cab 4wd tundras, plus two of the 1989-1995 gen trucks. The new trucks just don't do it for me anymore. I like the size and simplicity of the older trucks. If I could have the perfect truck, I would love a diesel, and I,m currently replacing the head on my current truck. I did think about converting it, but the outlay is just to great. If I couldn't get the diesel, how about the 3.5 in the sienna. My wife and I have a 2007 sienna that is a great vehicle that tows well and gets 25 mpg on the hwy. my kids are grown and we just can't seem to get rid of it.

My Subaru Outback had this. They called it SI-Drive. It could switch between "Intelligent", "Sport", and "Sport Sharp". It basically changed shift points and throttle sensitivity. Short sharp would give you 100% throttle with about 50% pedal input and held RPMs pretty high. Lots of fun. Intelligent was the opposite, ~50% throttle max even with 100% pedal movement and it would get to the highest gear as quickly as possible. Sport was linear and felt like it had a cable throttle. I just drove in Sport Sharp most of the time, but I could see how it would be useful for fuel economy. Intelligent was useful in slippery conditions because the throttle was so lazy.

I loved my Subaru...it was pushing nearly 270 HP, electroluminescent gauges, Momo steering wheel, sweet H6 engine that loved to rev AND had torque down low, RWD biased AWD system, I even put nice new KYB struts on it so it handled quite well in the end.

    As for 2016 for me:
Heated mirrors from the factory would be nice...and a bed light...and rear leaf springs that are actually worth something (it's fine if it rides a little rough, it's a truck!). Otherwise I'm honestly pretty content with how my 2011 is.
