you are not trying hard enough. I think you have the same "if I spend 40k on a truck is must be the most reliable thing on earth" Mentality.

Back in 2010 when I bought my Tacoma, an automatic could be had for approx. $1K more than manual. Now a manual is $4K more than the auto because it is lumped in with package I neither need nor want.

2nd Gen 4.0 Taco makes 236 hers pewsrs
3rd Gen 3.5 Taco makes 278 his pewtsrs

4runner retuned /updated 4.0 still makes only 270 hers powers

the 3.5 retuned and updated makes 360 hoe powers in other models...

    So... what have we learned?

Assume what you like. We have a 2019 4Runner and a 2017 Tacoma. Both are good but we use the Tacoma far more than the 4Runner.

So far your arguments haven't panned out and you've been outnumbered and rather than countering anything all you state is your opinion and that people are "grasping at straws." You're welcome to your opinion, but the 4.0L (and 2nd gen for that matter) isn't all it's cracked up to be.

If you think Toyota is the only one to use a single engine across multiple platforms, I have bad news for you... especially since said "car engine" has more horsepower than your "truck engine" lol

Personally would rather have a vehicle with an engine that makes good usable torque at its normal operating range (2000 to 4000rpm) than one that produces lots of horsepower at high rpm but lacks midrange torque. Horsepower numbers often don't tell the real story.

3.5 makes 1ft pound less torque 600 rpm higher. Not sure what you are getting at.

4.0 is done at 5k rpm, 3.5 just keeps on going.
