100% agree with you. My 2008 Ford Escape had better stock sound than my brand new Taco. Love everything else about the truck, but those speakers are an absolute joke.

Brakes. The one significant change I knew I was going to have to make was getting rid of those rear drums. I seem to be in the minority, but I really did not like the feel of the brakes. It's not just the Tacoma, I drove a Highlander loaner and they had the same "iffy" feel to them. It's not all drum brakes, either. My previous Ranger had rear drums and they were fine.

Fronts do 90% of the braking, doubt it has anything to do with the rears. The brake booster system is in fact super non linear and touchy in the tacoma. That seems to be noted by most reviews as well.

I really disliked how they felt on my 2nd gen. It felt like I was pushing through thick mud. I really like the hydraulic booster in the off-road though. Much better pedal feel for me.

Both of my Taco's has been 6MT so I have the benefit of downshifting but I could see the automatics being worse to brake with. I have however considered upgrading my brake pads to EBC yellow stuff.

I would like one larger cup holder. I have to set my huge water bottle on the floor and brace it with something so it doesn't tip over and roll around.

Replaced drums with discs and replaced the master with one from a Sequoia. Muuuuuch better. It wasn't that they were touchy, that I could deal with. It was more they were inconsistent. Hard to describe.

I'd rather replace brake pads than clutches.

What? How does engine braking wear the clutch? One more clutch depression will not cause enough wear for this to be a concern. Now fuel economy may come into play due to the higher RPM's but that would be it.

Just did a search and found a thread on it. I was just going to get an expander, but someone in the thread mentioned that the one they got melted and deformed, so the chalk bag might be the answer to my problem. Thanks for the tip.

    Like, so many.
Yeah, same for me. I fit 35s if I didn't have to regear.
