Picked up my truck two Saturdays ago and with a busy schedule currently I put on 998 miles of mixed driving in exactly one week. Some things I was looking for and things I've noticed. MPG is sitting at 19.6 right now. Does great on the highway probably around 24/25 if I keep it at 65 and not too mountainous. Local stop and go driving I'm getting aprx 14/15 mpg. Better than my Wrangler gets so no complaint there. All the talk of gear hunting on the highway had me concerned. To me it was hardly noticeable. I don't think it is any more noticeable than every other car I have ever owned and I did drive 400 miles of the 998 in the Catskill mountains. I'm 6'2" and 290 lbs and found the seats to be fine. I had no trouble finding a comfortable position. If anything I'd like a little more upward tilt on the steering wheel. Back seats are obviously tight especially if I'm sitting in front of you. No grandkids yet so the only thing back there would be a few bags. I think it would suit a family fine until the kids hit that long legged growth spurt. I did notice a little wind noise coming from the back door. Nothing terrible and again no where as bad as my 2017 Wrangler. At one point on the interstate there seemed to be a harmonic noise that sounded like a whistling most likely a road and tire combination that I have not heard again. So far loving the Tacoma and the comfortable ride that i get in my TRD Off Rd. Keep in mind my opinion might be a little jaded due to the fact I've been sharing my wife's Wrangler the last two years. The Wrangler is one step below horse and carriage as far as ride quality.

Glad you are enjoying your truck brother! Many come here to complain about everything from really minor shit all the way up to engines exploding, so your post was a breath of fresh air.

Drive it and enjoy it; the Tacoma really is a fun little truck to own. And take much what you read here with a grain of salt. :)

I don't know about the '22 but I have a '20 PRO. I know I felt like it wasn't bad compared to all of the rants I heard on the forum. I think Toyota did improve the Tacoma's transmission habits over the prior 3rd gen years and perhaps the '22 is even better now. However, I am currently running the KD Max XT tune and it is SOOOO much better!

No difference in transmission shifting from 2017 to 2022. Just depends on what you're used to. I've owned many vehicles and I'm too sensitive to this as I know this isn't an issue in some other brands. To me by far the worst part of the truck is the transmission programming. The rest of it more than makes up for it.

Had mine for about 15 months now. 8,500 miles on it. I thought my wife's 2017 Forester was the cats meow and it's a darn good passenger car no doubt,
but I love jumping into the truck and taking it out. I feel confident in it. Love the tech stuff, the handling, the response. Was never a fan of 0 to 60 in 2.4
seconds so the performance suits me just fine. Knowing I can haul stuff, go off road when (if) needed is of comfort to me. It's not some tiny little thing
but not too big either ( ie: full sized ). I look good in it too, which is all that really matters.

I'll have it paid off by the end of this year if things go well and it should last me to the last of my days... until I mingle with the stars.
My son is planning my early demise I just know it.

As far as any gear hunting....if its only minor now its going to gradually become less.

I find this so-called gear-hunting issue is only relevant when rapid acceleration is followed by rapid deceleration - when I drive steady as she goes
it is a non-issue with me.
