Long time lurker to the forum,
I drained the ATF out of my son's 07 Tacoma PreRunner.
Only 2 quarts total drained out. After filling it back with 2 quarts of WS fluid I noticed the pan angles down to the front of the vehicle. To get the much noted 4 quart drain is everyone jacking up the front of the truck?
    http://www.toyotatundraforum.com/pdf/A750E.pdf
shows a picture of the sloping pan away from the drain. I plan on changing the fluid again in a month when he returns from college and the 2 quarts have "mixed" with the old. Any info appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Steve

the pan only holds about 3 quarts. the system totals about 11-13 if i remember correctly. Check the sticky on how to properly do a full trans flush.

Some of the transmissions came from the factory low on fluid. Your may be one of them, I know mine was. Follow the steps to check the level in the link DoorDing posted and I bet you will be a little low.

My 1st Gen Tacoma drained more transmission fluid with the front elevated as high as a floor jack would take it.

Drain it first on level ground; then measure what came out. Empty out the pan; then elevate truck to see if you get any additional fluid. Measure it as well to see what additional fluid(if any) came out.

I see a lot of posts here with drain totals in the 1.5 to 3.0 qt. range. The transmissions are either low on fluid or the elevation drains more fluid.

just changed min earlier this week and only got 2.5 out of it. it was level on a post lift. as stated some of these are coming from the factory low on fluid. i was advised from the local dealer to not change mine as i have over 150,000 miles on it i did it anyway no problems so far and drove it over an hour one way lastnight everything seems good

After driving truck around 15 min before starting, I 1st loosened the overfill Allen bolt and fluid came out, about 4-6 oz. Then I drained the rest of the 2 quarts out the drain hole. I figured since fluid came out of the overfill hole to start with it was not low on fluid??? I will drain again in a month when I get the truck back home from college. Truck smarter than I am. Thanks for the replies so far.

Many trucks were underfilled from the factory, mine was low about 3/4 qt
