I have a 4x4 v6 running 295/75/16 MT's (basically 34'' x 12'') and still get over 300 miles per tank. My last and best tank since I got the bigger tires was 316 miles, which was 17.6 mpg. That was also with about 10 miles of trail riding. I probably could have gotten at least 330 miles on that tank if I had been more strict on my new driving plan. I get about the same mpg as I did as when I had 265/75/16 tires before. This is because I changed my driving habits. I take off from stops pretty slow. I keep it under 2k rpms, unless I need to for it to catch a higher gear. I coast down any hill that I can. I usually drive the speed limit, and at the most 5mph over. I use cruise control on any flat straight aways.

This all keeps me at about the same mpg as a lot of guys on here with a stock 4x4 v6. Just those little things have helped me and I know they can help you. Just driving a little more conservatively can help a lot. I use regular 89 gas and do not have any performance upgrades. I just keep the oil fresh with synthetic every 5k, keep my driveshaft lubed, and all the other regular maintenance.

I think it depends on how full your tank is and how low you'll go on getting it running. I got a 450+ miles this past fill up but when the light came on I still drove my tacomita for an extra day around town, fill er up and it took about 20 gallons, so I got about a half of a gallon to a gallon left in my tank.

V6 4x4 automatic is easier on gas than others ????

Yes that is what I'm saying. Here's a graph of every tank. 2008 was a good year.

for those saying cruise control doesnt help.

Take a long enough trip where you can put 3-4 full tanks thru the truck. Tank #1 drive like you usually do. #2 drive with it set on cruise control (whatever mph you want but most people will go 70-72 and leave it for as much as you can. #3 drive with it set on cruise control at 60-65 mph for as much as you can.

If youre driveing say NY to FLA, you can set that cruise and possibly not have to touch the break pedal except for maybe 1-2 an hour! That will show you exactly how well the steady gas flow helps with mpg. teh longer ist set to a steady speed rather than speeding up and down by way of your foot on the pedal.

Also, as proved on Mythbusters, the more you draft off a vehicle in front of you the better your gas mileage. They were able to get 50% BETTER gas mileage by getting very close to the 18 wheeler in front of them. Thats not safe, but even at 3-4 car lenghts youre gettign better mpg. while not practical anywhere except on the interstate, it helps. Just make sure the truck you decide to follow can see you as often as possible (dip in and out of his view) and make sure he is OK with youbeing there. Some drivers will slow down so slow it will make you "get off his as".

I had a 2004 Corolla S i traded in for the Tacoma. I drove from NY to Atlanta (filled up 10 miles into my trip) and only had to fill up one time during that trip before hitting ATL and had plenty of gas. Its 890 miles door to door. I rode for hours on cruise and never had to turn it off or adjust it.

im going to fill up and let you all know what driving from NJ to NYC each day/night will get me as far as mpg. That trip includes atleast a 30 min delay each morning getting thru a tunnel. And atleast a 15 minute delay returning. So lets see.....i think im somewhere around 250-275

whats the capacity of a 2008 4.6l double cab? 17.5?

i currently have beat to death 245/75/16 tires ( more like racing slicks) and no engine mods.

Wow, I had no idea how well a 4 cylinder did. I knew they did better, but I didn't realize they did that good. That's like a smart car with a bed on it!

I don't see how ya'll get such low mileage. The only thing I have going for me is my new driving habits and that I live in the country. Ya'll must just stomp the pedal to get everywhere, lol.

I just moved into a new house this past weekened so there was a ton of city driving with a loaded up bed and cab (couches, dressers, bookshelves etc.) plus just one hour long trip on the highway. Filled it up on Friday and was empty on Sunday after 315 miles, took about 19 gallons to fill it up. 07 double cab 4x4 6-speed, I usually shift at about 2500.

I also live at 6000 ft and use 87 since thats the mid grade out here, not sure yet how using 87 as opposed to 85 affects the MPG.

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
Just made a cross country trip(3200 miles), southern Florida to OKC and back, in my 99, 224,000mi, 4x4, 2.7 5spd, reg cab with topper.

interstate, near speed limit, A/C OFF -- 22.5 to 23 mpg
interstate, near speed limit, A/C ON -- 19.5 to 20 mpg

intown, stop and go averages are the same.

Note: when the topper is off and the mountain bikes are in the bed, mileage goes up 1.5-2 mpg. Saves gas but the bikes rust out there.

Truck hummed along, never occured to itself it is 13 years old and beat.
