I'm at 17k and got one stone chip so far that I filled with resin. At least your replacement cost isn't $1000 like mine with TSS would've been...

I wonder if the clear bra used for paint can be applied to the windshield? Just peel it off each year and reapply? Toyota uses this in racing, peeling off a layer every few pitstops - faster than scrubbing.

    I put it down to;

    1) More big trucks on the road.

    2) Less road cleaning being performed.

    3) More construction near roadways/highways with gravel being strewn on the roads.

    4) More "all terrain" tires on the road...

    5) People packed in closer together because of traffic.

Be glad you don't have a 2018+ that has the camera to be mounted and calibrated on it each time.

A bug deflector MAY help a TINY bit....

Hopefully Corning will make Gorilla Glass for the Tacoma like they did for the Jeep as an option...

We won't talk about the Cybertruck glass....

It would work great if you didn't use your wipers much...

Would help with the micro scratches but not so much for rocks :(

Toyota mounting the camera on the windshield was stupid....

Is this new? The JL was notorious for cracking windshields. One vehicle where aftermarket glass lasts longer than OEM glass.

Not sure when it was added, but the Mopar website lists them for the Wrangler *Available for model years 2007-2018. Part number 68401325AA.

Available aftermarket for F150's and a few high end vehicles...

About twice the cost of OEM glass....

Have not seen any real data on them yet either... but in theory will be a lot stronger....

2007-2018 is JK, which AFAIK didn't have a problem with windshields.

I would suggest painting them yourself with brush on paint and then some spray top coat. Worst case get them epoxy coated not powder coated. You'll have a harder time touching them up.

    Powdercoating!

so I talked to my guy today. He gave a couple options. Here’s how it works, if he’s running a colour that you want it’s cheaper for him to toss your piece up at the end of the line and have it go through as a big batch.
He can do custom one off pieces with what ever colour you like but the price goes up. Eg my coffee table cost me $10 to get done because it got put through at the end of a big job, on its own it would have cost me $100. He doesn’t run all colours all the time, say 5 people wanted outdoor satin black finish (pretty standard) you might have to leave the product there for a week or so till he has enough pieces to do a run and save you money. It’s usually only a couple days

if you want special colours/rush orders it costs more.

He’s fine with anyone taking stuff to him. Roy works the office, he’s usually the one I deal with, the place is called Spectrum Powder coat 63 Medulla Av, Etobicoke. All the guys there are awesome. They like doing cash jobs

Only thing to note is they only do a final clean and then powder coat, so if you have rust/paint on the piece you’ll want to get that removed before powder coating. If you have any questions about him/the process Ill do my best to answer them. I’m still happy to take a bunch of peoples things when I take my stuff if you guys would prefer, just gotta finish making my stuff first.

I wonder if toyotapartsdirect.ca is apart of this. Considering it is in London which is close to some factories. Hmmm.

Toyota doesn't make many of the parts on Toyotas at all. Neither does any other manufacturer.... There are a few companies that Toyota owns that make Toyota parts, like Toyota Boshoku, Toyoda Gosei and Aisin. They also stamp many of their body panels.

I think we had 1500 different suppliers providing various parts to build a complete vehicle. I.e., Denso, Yazaki, NSK, Hitachi, FIO, FIC, the list goes on and on....

When you buy Genuine Toyota parts, you're buying parts that were designed and made for Toyota, not made by Toyota.

Absolutely. My wording was off I guess. I guess I’m getting at buying parts that are made for toyota and meet their standards and aren’t knockoff or packaged rejects. The toyotapartsdirrct site seems pretty good. Usually the quality looked good and had the right labelling that would suggest.

essentially don’t want to be paying for one thing and getting something that is of a quality that I could get for cheaper.
