That's a possibility but it's not a cheap unit. I'm still on the fence.

@Tridet167 Check out Midlands website under Micromobiles and youll find 3 or 4 different options with different price points for mobile GMRS. All are supposed to be pretty darn good.

May be interested. I’m still not sure if these are “legal” but not having to deal with shitty battery ones that die on the trail would be nice. But I have some other stuff to deal with first.....lol

I was on there and been looking at reviews as well and yes they are very good. Even on the FRS 1-7 channels they run around 5watts on LOW. Considering most radios only use 1 or 2 watts, if you're lucky, I would say that's a huge power gain. Keep in mind reception quality is based by line of sight.
Here's a good review of the mid unit MXT115.

From what I been reading, looks like they might not be because of the removeable antenna and the higher power. GMRS in the US requires a licence whereas here we don't.
    I found this :
"In Canada, hand-held GMRS radios up to 2 watts have been approved for use without a license since September 2004.[20] Typically these are dual FRS and GMRS units, with fixed antennas, and operating at 2 watts on some GMRS channels and 0.5 watts on the FRS-only channels. Mobile units (permanently mounted in vehicles), base stations and repeaters are not currently permitted on the GMRS channels in Canada."

So as long as these are under the wattage we should be good.

One option is to pick up one of their handhelds that runs on 5w. The antenna is fixed so no one would ever question it.

The link I posted for the handheld, apparently they only charge on a base. They might have another model in the range that can be charged by cable.

    Mostly stock for now...
I know a lot of people are big into "chrome delete" on their trucks, but I saw this in Port Dover and wondered how much off-road pinstripe protection you actually get from a full chrome body wrap like thisDSC01129.jpg ?
