for the last year my truck has been on 5100's and 886 coils but according to the chart it's a N/A. Dose anyone know why?

5100s are lifting shocks, 886s are lifting coils. Since internal shock rebound valving being overworked, the spring rate causes premature failure of the shock. There are few threads around TW about it.

    Specifically the 886 coils are 660 lb/in., while the 885, 887, 888 coils are 590 lb/in.: https://www.headstrongoffroad.com/store/p250/Old_Man_Emu_Lift_Coils_-__Various_Lift_Heights_Available_(PAIR).html

They are all lifting coils, but 886 achieves it with a stiffer rate, while the other ones do it by being longer. OME probably figured the Bilstein 5100 won't provide enough damping with the stiffer rate.

    ok thanks.
arb and winch and sliders and steel skids sure make the ride smooth on top of that after this past year it seems to have sagged a bit. I was just curious about it

Yes your truck is 1000 lbs heavier than mine according to the scales, and I'm on 700 lb/in. coils with my Icons. :)

When your shocks break, get 6112s :)

This for your Elkas? Find a local shop that carries Eibach (P/N 1400.300.0600S) or King (P/N SPR3-14-600) :notsure:

Ordering my Elka 2.5's tomorrow :cookiemonster:
@3JOH22A you can use what ever you what for a tree save, wet paper towels if you like. It is your truck.

That is an ATV tree strap, do not try and tell me other wise. It says it right in the name.

Anything rated for a truck is 20K lbs miniumun. You should NOT have ATV recovery equipment. I dont care if @Norilsk has used it 500 times himself. That does not make it good or right. Spent the extra $10 and get the proper rated equipment.

I want you guys to be safe when recovering.

Please do not show others that they should be buying this lower rated equipment for recoveries. Please guys this is a group, others see what you do, and will do the same. Do the right thing, not the cheap thing.

    :cookiemonster:

I refused to help recover a guy recently because he would not listen about being safe. He was stuck in the end of his buddies drive way. He would not remove his trailer hitch with a ball on it. He insisted we just put the rope over it and pull him like that. I would not.

The 2nd time I said this.

Me 'All we have to do is remove your hitch and put the pin threw the strap'
Him 'No that will take to long and its cold, just put it on the ball I dont have time for this'

I did not repeat myself a 3rd time. I walked back to my truck, tossed my proper rated recovery stuff in the bed and drove away. His arms where up in the air, like 'WTF'. You dont listen to someone trying to help sometimes they drive away with 0 fucks given.

thank you stressing the importance of using correct recovery equipment. sure there are safety considerations (x1.5/ 2.0 overhead) but working above the limit and within the overhead will cause issues and severly degrade the life of that strap.

I got laughed at Ardbeg for pulling out a 5000lb strap after i was swamped that way no one else had to jump into the water

I'm always reminded of this when i see a tow ball.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFD4Fd03bq8
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjorZuxeRIg

obviously there are some unrealistic scenarios (wedging a person between the truck and their bumper that was torn off and still trying to pull them out) but the importance to take away from this, is that a tow ball isn't meant for that sort of loading.

Though i do have a question that just popped into mind. Say i have a hitch that rust-welded itself into the receiver, if i remove the tow ball from the hitch itself and run a bow shackle through where the ball mounts to, would this still be relatively ok?

    I know these exists (i have one from Smitty built);
    download.jpg

    but talking more about this;
    BMHD30011 high res.jpg
i feel like it's a bad idea as the pin from the bow shackle is far too small to fit into the hole. as the loading of it will tweak the entire thing on an angle and the edges of the hitch itself will dig/ cut into the bow shackle weakening it

Agreed. 20-30k is usually the norm for straps. Kinetic straps it gets tricky, but usually the manufacturer gives you a range of vehicle weight for their straps.

886’s are technically not good for the bullies. It’s too much spring for them.

Overhead lift limits are well above 2x.
Depending on weight it's anywhere from 4x to 6x

Think of most shackles. working load limit of 2.5ton breaking limit of 10ton usually.

Fun shit to do, rigging up to lift a 8000lbs transformer with two chain fall to go up 16ft then over 8ft.

Lift with one to go up then hook up second to pull it over while lowering other one back down to allow it to move to the side

Just a quick question off topic, frame inspection, because i drilled holes for rock sliders dose that make this inspection null and void if they say it needs a frame which I know it dose not. its a 2014. Also I'm planning of some day cutting the spare tire mount off the frame at rear so dose that void a frame replacement? Also will they freek at my body lift? o and I'm planning on day to remove cab mount
