Keep laughing - a Northstar Group 31 lead acid battery has 1.24 kWh capacity (103Ah x 12V /1000). Get two and you technically have more capacity than the Tundra's NiMH pack. Of course lead acid batteries can't handle the duty cycle.

Seriously tho, they could make up for it being very shit compared to the ford by offering it in the base model, or better yet, a regular cab, but of course they'd never fucking do that.

I'd like to plan a Wetum winter road trip this 2022 if they open the road. I don't know if this will interest anyone but when the time comes up I'll post something...

I'm looking to buy a RTT for 2022 spring and have been looking at iKamper and 23Zero.
I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for RTTs?
Anything I should look out for when buying one?

@URBAN_COWBOY_TACO I remember seeing you have a 23Zero RTT. Which one do you have and what are your thoughts on it?

I recently encountered “Wheel every weeekend” podcast talking about all kinds of brands, quality, issues etc in rooftop industry(check them out) - thanks @tacoma16 :hattip:

Have a look at Smitty, you’ll be repairing any of the tents quiet often if you wheel, don’t spend too much.

my recommendation to you would be ask yourself will I use it?
I got mine at the beginning of 2019 and took it along to Labrador. Not because I wanted an RTT but because I'm cheep. it saved me a good 600 dollars in hotel fees, used it in 2020 a handful of times and like wise this year. Its been in rain storms and wind storms and hit a lot of branches and still going strong.
its not one of these but (iKamper and 23Zero. so it will not be good for the twittergrambook but its a good one

oh I forgot to say its the smittybilt RTT. I know redbear outdoors has a sale on tents and they have them set up in their showroom too...https://redbearoutdoors.ca/

Locker actuator has arrived from Rockauto, thanks Dax

I say just skip the actuator and throw on some light bars. Will be fine!

Jeremiah and I think it should be replaced with a parking brake system.

Pull the lever, engage the locker.

But for the cost of this part, I can hopefully just do maintenance on it and keep it from failing. If this one fails. It will be cabled in the future.

They do have cable e lockers. Some use a choke lever. Pull it out and engages the locker. Easier to package too

Much like the others, i have a little bit of experience with RTTs. however it's specifically experience with my Hobo RTT. (it's a modified Cabela's Tent Cot that is mounted to a bed rack i built)
    IMG_20200919_120155.jpg

I wont ask the common question of "What is your use case for a RTT?" but i'll ask if you have storage for it (which was my largest concern when i decided on a RTT) or if you have a method to level the truck out on rocky terrain? I ask that since not a single RTT is good if you cannot level out the truck (much less the tent) and doesn't matter which brand you look at and get, if you can't level it to a reasonable degree - it wont be what you expect from it.

with that said that's if you're out on the trail, however if you're hitting up a proper campsite like Algonquin or some place, then 90% of it is flat and shouldn't be an issue in any way. my only gripe is the $4k price tag on the Ikamper... but good god i want one.

I have a jeep buddy who recently got a smitty built RTT and has enjoyed it (found it to be a pain sometimes since he's 5foot maybe and the RTT is above the roof line of his Gladiator...)

I think we could design better! If the OX indeed suffers from cable pull variation during movement it can be made to have a spring biased system that could provide lots of room for "slop". ie. spring 1 is for de/actuation, spring 2 in series to be stiffer and allow an overpull.
