My trucks diagnosis just came back. Hvac unit is bad, building condensation and blowing it into the vent system. They’re talking to Toyota about getting it warrantied (even tho I’m outside of the timeframe). I’m pretty upset not gonna lie.

edit: apparently it’s not been deemed “bad” but it’s building condensation inside of it and blowing it onto the floor. ANGER

That sucks. At 20k kms mine wasn't blowing cold this spring. I had $1,400 worth of condenser and suction line replaced. When I went to pick it up, the service advisor said "that'll be 14.02 today". I said "what would that be for?" thinking he meant 14 dollars for something outside the a/c repair. He said "lemme go check into that". By the time he got back to tell me it was warranty, I had figured out he meant 1,400 for the whole repair.

I hope Toyota is nice to you...

Thought about it. I love this thing. Sentimental vs Reality fighting right now. Sentimental will probably win.

    Sentimental lost for me.
AC [compressor] also went in mine, was told could be a two month wait for a compressor. Seems like the AC system is problematic on these trucks. Advisor told me they had two other trucks in with AC issues, one of which was in the shop getting a new compressor put in.
Asked for an offer from them, wasn’t happy with it. Went down the road where they gave me a much better offer which I took toward a better on road vehicle.
Next time I get an off-roader it’ll be a beater so I don’t have to worry about destroying a daily.

    Good luck man.

See the thing is for me

    • I drive about 50/50 on dirt. So something lowered won’t work for me.
    • I haul motorcycles about 50% of the time. So I kinda need a truck. Trailer is really inconvenient to haul around.
    • Off-roading is done about 3-4 times a month, often not for pleasure, clearing trail on the farm
    • I’m 19- so insurance is stupid. Tacoma is rather cheap on insurance.
    • Having 2 vehicles doubles my insurance, so that kinda sucks.
All of these leads me back to a midsize/full-size truck
    1. I like the look of the frontier, but don’t trust Nissans reliability. Also, seems like they’ve been plagued with issues.
    2. The ranger is top of my list behind the Tacoma- but I had a 11 ecoboom which was a nightmare. So, out for me.
    3. Drove a canyon, hated it lol. So that’s just me.
    4. Full-size seems nice, but I live in the inner city and really don’t need it at all… but if I do decide to trade it it’ll be on one of those.
Overall, the Tacoma is just the perfect vehicle for me right now, and I love driving it. It just pisses me off to no end that I buy what’s supposed to be one of the most reliable vehicles on earth and it’s pissing all over the floor.
    End rant. Lol.

Pretend it's a Jeep and take a hole saw to the footwell? Make the hole size match some standard rubber plug. It'll also come in handy the next time you dunk the truck in a lake.

What particular component is bad? Evaporator? Expansion valve?

I’ll have to grab the paperwork to tell you. I checked all drain lines, everything related to draining, and did a leak test (as in, is rain getting in) and nothing. So I’m inclined to believe their diagnosis.
