I ordered steel today for cap build 2.0…..

goal for cap 2.0 build is it will be easily removable. Will have a floor so stuff can remain inside and be lifted off so flatbed things can happen.

going for a half canopy too. Only thing in the cap will be the fridge and dry storage. Obviously for longer overlandy trips.

    inspiration:
    upload_2023-3-24_17-6-53.jpg

Will be more in the middle of the bed since I have my tool box that’s directly against the back rack. Also leaving a foot for firewood, garbage etc etc at the very back of the bed.

All in all the floor will be 70”x44” and 35” internal height, not sure what that will be outside yet (may do a rack or something).

Essentially I’m hoping to build a carrier attatched to the cap to avoid strapping it to the back rack. Back rack doesn’t seem happy with it. Think once o go 37’s or bigger the bed may be gone, and it will be a trail truck at that point. Will see though.

have access to either engine hoist, tractor, or end goal would be gantry in a future garage…..

I know you don't what to do this but seen this somewhere. 4, 2" holes in the bed and make 4 mounting pads that mounted independently of the bed onto the frame. Either round or square tubing and this way your flatbed dosen't crack or take any load of the box.
just a thought. If or when I build another bed rack it will be mounted to the frame through the bed and I don't trust plastic bed. your a step up with the al u min eee um. but you get the idea...

Currently the flatbed is mounted directly to the frame and no issues thus far. It’s rated for 6ton so I’m assuming the flex wouldn’t hurt it. The cap will be steel this time around and will be mounted using the tie downs of the bed. Hoping it works out. Goal is to only have the cap on for longer trips. Even a weekend trip will be just a tarp and the cooler.

Just a PSA, if anyone can get out of the light pollution the northern lights are likely to be visible again tonight as long as the skies stay clear.

It's a Friday, time for an evening drive!

It's a giant case but its got space to hold all the saw related supplies. Best mod I did to mine was just screwing some all-round and pvc pipe to the walls to hold all the saw bottles/supplies/accessories in place. Somehow took years if cursing to get around to it.

Lol it will work. If not I’ll learn something and redo it I guess. Anything worth doing is worth redoing…..”we make it right because we do it twice…..”

    Ya bawd
4 + 1 for now... we'll see if I like the overload in or not. If I decide I don't then I will be adding a leaf for axle wrap. I was going to just swap the axle in but figured I'll already have it apart so I might as fucking well. If I find myself with enough time out to be doing 14-in bilsteins as well on to Ford shock Towers

Can’t wait to see it! I have been wanting to do this for a while. between the tundra booster you did and this, I’ll be bugging you…

I got 4 Tmr basic shock towers which I was thinking of using for towers. Considered frenching into the frame to avoid tire rub but I honestly want to the the Chevy 63’s and 14 bolt swap all at the same time….
