The caliper may not be sitting square. Apply some shop air to the caliper hose port to extend the piston and put a squeeze on the rotor, then observe.

The holes on the caliper bracket may be drilled too high. Also happened to the author in this guide here: http://www.billavista.com/tech/Articles/14-Bolt_Disc_Brake_Conversion/index.html (single rear wheel hub shown)

    upload_2025-1-6_21-34-2.png

Do you know which vendor made the disc conversion kit on your axle? Was the caliper bracket home-made? I see a thin-walled area that would have an outgrowth on name-brand kits:

As far as I can tell can tell the pads are squeezing flush with the rotor. Decided to just knock off some pad material at the top. All good now

^Lol "I love the smell of asbestos in the morning..."

The pad overreaching the rotor does no harm. The opposite is worse, as the rotor would develop a rust lip around the outer perimeter. Had this happen with Centric rotors and pads on my father's Subaru.

but if you define the scope and parameters of grinding and write it down its an engineering fix. Sometimes knowing the why's doesnt change the solution.

^The engineering solution would've been to do nothing  Not a problem that needed fixing.

I have a special transmission its the RA60F-P
you come to a stop shut the engine down place the shifter in 1st gear and let go of the clutch. When the truck stops moving the parking brake is set. :) I joking but not rally...

I haven't figured that out parking brakes yet I'm still working on how I'm going to get a passenger side transfer case in the truck when I trans output shaft is a 22 spline and everything else is 23..

Thank you I'll have to call them. I already have a Dana 300 I can use. If I can use this kit to bolt it up.

My 14 bolt caliper brackets are for dual rear wheels. I think I can use Cadillac calipers from 1976 but doing things on the cheep for now just to get everything in there. Yes a new kit might Be in order
