@3JOH22A I always check to see if I am get the best deal possible. My wife car is a lot per month the other places we called. We have been with co-operators for over 10 years. The last 2 years we have seen our premiums go up. Too many scammers and thief’s going on.

Lowest bidding glass shops and stereo shops signing up to give insurance companies kickbacks. If you experience a problem with the tags, the next guy that "fixes" it will usually badmouth the previous installer for shoddy work.

The Speedy Glass employee said the tag batteries last five years or so (okay, whatever). After that, the romance is over and it's up to the owner to find and remove the dead and presumably non-serviceable tags.

I wouldn't be too shocked if Mr. Lube started installing these tracking systems.

    Check build thread!
My solution to the trackers was to call my insurance and yell and threaten to take my business elsewhere (I have 11 vehicles/trailers insured). Ymmv lol

So lot's of comments around this tracking. As someone who used to put the "creepy" in big brother - a couple of considerations.

First - you are giving "them" - whoever they are - "permissions". They control these permissions, make changes to the data being collected and what it is being used for, at their discretion and you are expected to stay current on these changes (hard to do). So even if you agree with "them" now, you may not in the future.

Second, each agreement has a control change clause. Think 23 & Me. In the event of a company sale, bankruptcy, merger, etc., the data is considered an asset and the agreement can change. Again you lose.

Real life Toyota example - I bought a 2008 sedan second hand. Buried in the owner's manual in small print - in the event of an accident the car sends data to Toyota engineers without any notice. In the event of an accident, I don't want my car sending my data to anyone unless I tell it to. But even though I never signed a data release with the dealer or Toyota, I cannot control this. So when the car was in an accident, I got deeply involved with the legal dept about what they could do with my data, how and where it was stored, who had access to it, etc.

All this data goes into AI algorithms to control all kinds of insurance premiums (health, P&C, liability, etc.).

Sorry for the above minutia, and simply adding context so you can make the best choice for you.

17 year-old Toyota can send data to corporate, really? Over what, the 3G network that shut down last year? Wasn't cellular data like $1000 per GB back then?

My 2000 and 2003 have corporate pigeons in the trunk that deploy and deliver data upon impact. :bananadead: or maybe they just got there and living in there...

^I suspect the OEM Tahara pigeons reached end-of-life (EOL) many years ago and have since been replaced with locally sourced pigeons not subject to TPP tariffs.
