Reason #2 that I will be getting the ARB front bumper, it is designed to push a deer under the truck. Tested to ensure it works this way.

That $102 dollars bumper is not going to protect my $800 ARB compressor behind the passenger headlight. Or my Dual battery setup that is planned.

    ARB bumper will.

    And it looks cool ++overlandpoints

Sean at Overland Racks is building the custom rack because I need it to fit over these dufus' kennel! He's going to ensure that the tent brackets won't be hindered by the kennel. Plus, I'll be adding side lights on the rack and my awning. Since I'm a smidge above 6ft and my son is nearly 6'4" standing under the awning without hunching would be awesome for both of us lol.

The kennel isn't finished. Still have to clean up all the edges, bondo the exterior, sand and prime then paint. Seal the interior wood, install insulation and faux diamond plated plastic panels on the inside. I also made mesh screen covers to go over the windows and door, using magnets to secure in place so the dogs can sleep in peace at night without being eaten alive by the bugs.

    upload_2019-1-9_14-59-57.jpg

Oh I'll eventually bring the dogs on the trail. The shepherd is a guard dog, so he needs to know a person is safe before he treats you like his best friend. So just fair warning that you can't approach him or stick your fingers in the kennel. Didn't train him this way, how he was raised before me and after having some bad experiences with people.

They won't likely fit without cutting but as long as they aren't worn . Pretty good

When they go on sale at CT you can get a set for around 1500

It's around $2300 after tax if you get it at normal price.

Some insurance companies care about it, many do not. Talk with your own insurance co. first. You will want to purchase coverage for the bumper anyway.

yup, definitely a more 2020 purchase.
The Wild Coast Tents, Firefly RTT is about that after shipping it to woodstock for pickup.

When you travel alone, add your GF, gear to make her comfortable, your kayaks, (future dog that you plan) and all the other comfort creatures and you will be 500 lbs above

Did you weight your tires, suspension, leafs etc together? Your payload is about 1100 lbs. Even with my light setup I have barely space to be under GWVR.

I'd think skids are more important than an rtt

And the mpg loss from having that thing on . Overall cost etc.
They're cool but meh. I don't see the value in one. But to each their own.

I've been in Peters it's comfy and cool but meh not prepared to deal with the work or any of the shit that goes with it.

I like being able to set up camp and then still drive

While I appreciate the offer (That's a good rack)

I've paid my deposit and Sean has worked with me on the design to make sure I get something that I am going to be really happy with.

 it's on the intent now lol

In US they can weight your vehicle to determine if it caused accident or not, if it's modified heavily (aftermarket bumper, suspension etc). Pretty sure in Canada there must be something similar.

    Fair points, to be sure.

But, I have to factor in use over long term. My son goes to university in the fall and this year is all about getting out there with him and his sister for the quality time. Trail time won't be as prevalent for 2019 as 2021, 2022.

Down the road, switching to a trailer to allow some vehicle mobility might be in order, though usually when I camp, the truck is parked until I'm leaving the campsite. RTT on the truck impacts only my setup and tear down times. Plus those nice mattresses gives Dad's back a break from a backpack bedroll and collapsible light weight cot

In the end, the intended use determines the priority.

I myself love to go try some wheeling, but I'm very limited with my open differentials. That being said, I've stocked up on some recovery gear: ropes, recovery strap, shovel, axe, saw, but most importantly my More Power Puller come along, that someone mentioned in TW somewhere.
It's got me out of a couple jams already. I bought the 3 ton model with synthetic line, and love it's dependability.
