52 000 BTU. Will heat up the garage quick and then maintain the temp with my 5000w heater on the ceiling. One of my friend bought one and was surprise how well it heat up his garage.

Hey guys just throwing this out there.
Theres a group buy for rokblokz mudflaps, yes their expensive but they cover oversized tires great and look good too in my opinion. Anyways its 20% off and free shipping to the states. I will be getting a set and picking them up from Niagara falls NY. If anyone else is interested I can pick theirs up for them and set something up.

yeah it would have been a tight fit for sure! not worth the risk haha probably a good idea on your part. I know my buddy squeezed his stock ram 1500 in there one time, I was biting my lip the whole time just waiting for the crunch haha the antenna was dragging on the roof the whole time haha

a 5000w heater would cost us a fortune to heat a garage with hahaha consider urself lucky! those propane heaters work well tho! I install quite a few suspended garage heaters that work great. something like this. This is a big one, 100k btu, most of the ones ive put in are half the size.

My garage is not really big to heat lol and I only heat when I work in and since I owned the house last July I don't have many project on the go lol a friend calculated an average of 0,30$/hour when the heater is running. Since you know a lot about those systems, what is the best unit to heat a less than 500 sq ft garage? If my heater is not the greatest for the price (paid 150$ at costco) I may get rid of it for a better one. I have some kind of an OCD with optimisation lol!

Well if you were to put a unit heater in, a 30k BTU would be a good size to heat about 500sq ft. But it depends on how warm you wish to keep it and how high the ceiling is and how well insulated the garage is. I would rather have one a little too big and would probably put a 50 in just to be sure it can keep up on the really cold days. but they are not exactly cheap tho. I don't remember the price off hand but ur looking at like $1000 just for the unit, then u need special venting for it which is another couple hundred + gas piping. honestly being on the Quebec side with inexpensive hydro, an electric heater is ur best bet. 30k BTUs = 8797Watts. (BTU/3.41=Watts) so 50k would be 14662 Watts. you could probably buy a big electric heater with a built in fan for about the same price but it would probably cost you less to run it.

That's some pretty solid advice. I run a little buddy heater. The stuff you guys are talking about is some next level. One day. Have to insulate the garage first. It's usually colder in my garage than it is outside sometimes.

In all seriousness very informative post. Definitely something to consider.

A big unit like that would take a whole corner in the garage right? Lol. The mastercraft burner is 52 000 btu so I guess if I boost the temp with it and then maintain with the electric I may be good? I used the electric a few times and was able to reach 10C in like 20mins so it is not bad at all. I have like 9' ceiling I think... not high enough for a hoist :( next one should be!:D

Garage heaters are a game changer haha I know I will be putting one in my garage once I have one haha be a few years yet before I buy a house tho. Realistically, be ready to spend upwards of around 3-4k for installation. unless you have a buddy who is willing to do a side job. companies usually just double there cost and that's what u pay haha I would go with a reputable small company, less overhead so u can get a better price. I was at a customers house the other day and he got a quote for an oil to gas conversion for a new furnace and water heater, he was quoted 10k, we do it for about 5-6k.

Those buddy heaters are awesome! we have a little buddy and a Mr buddy heater that we run up at the trailer to warm up the deck. in the winter we wrap the deck with 3mm plastic and some tarps and those heaters keep it really warm. I mean you have to keep all ur clothes on but still very comfortable!

The gas heaters hang from the ceiling so they don't take up any floor space, they only hang down about 2 feet roughly so @ 9ft ceilings you would be able to walk under it no problem.

May be in the way of the truck roof haha! Thanks for all the info but I'll stay with my electric lol I knew that electricity was more expensive in Ontario but not at the point to not consider to heat a garage with electricity... it is kinda disapointing...

yup, on-peek we pay 18cents/kwh, off peak isn't bad at 8.7 and mid peak 13 but charges also change on weekends and times of peak change depending on the season lol but oh well, I don't really pay attention to it, don't really have any control over it so I just pay my bill. I'm not home during peak hours so my bills arent too bad

I was looking at HydroQuebec's chart this afternoon and your 8.7 is close to our highest cost... my gf thinks I am a maniak with our consumption... and I think she is right... I guess I'll stop to care someday lol

    Thanks man!
I wish I had the truck so we could have done a snow run or a meet or something. I think the girlfriend and I will be coming down in the summer to do some camping though. Maybe then.

Yeah, no snow here at all. Crazy difference. Went from wearing my long johns there to a sweater and hat here lol.

Sooo I have a cracked boot... I guess I have to change the whole cv axle? Should I stick with Toyota parts or there is another manufacturer that have equal quality?

From what I understand Toyota axles are the better ones, however I personally would go with a remanufactired one. I think wrench monkey had them for $100.
