Hmm. Did you do the wiring for the fj case yet?

I don’t believe the abs and traction stuff is through that ecm unless it’s different on the manual.

I’ll do some digging in the morning for ya.

my only thing would be that the dash isn’t getting feedback from those sensors. I know on the manual tacos, the tcase has the speedo and what not. So maybe abs and traction won’t work because it isn’t getting wheel speed? The only thing is that signal/wire shouldn’t be going to the 4wd ecu. Again I’ll double check.

So abs and trac shouldn’t be affected by 4wd ecu removal

this is pretty much the problem you are having and by doing the splicing (giving feedback to the dash) your lights should go.Also @llamasmurf this has the splicing you may need

Yep. I got snow here too. Not too much, but enough to make working outside unpleasant.

I found this on TW also was at a work computer so e mailed it to my self but dont have a link just a copy and paste:

Havent found much/any help on this topic so i spent the time to figure it out. Did the FJ AWD front diff tube setup and tackled the wiring. Here is the basic breakdown of what needs to be going on. When you try to engage 4x4, the 4x4 ECU is looking for the ADD to activate fully before signal will be sent to the transfer case.

Disregard the circled part on the diagram. Purely for a visual. (white/black is shown outside but its pinned between green/black and pink/blue)

The ADD has 6 wires that control the action as well as engagement/disengagement confirmations. Your wires may differ in color but this is what i had on my 2008. This is how my wires came in the ADD connector.

1 - Red - Power for ADD motor
    2 - Black/white stripe - Ground for ADD motor
    3 - Green/black stripe - ADD engagement confirmation
    4 - White/black stripe - ground for confirmation wires
5 - Pink/blue stripe - (I believe this is power cut for ADD motor)
    6 - Green - ADD disengaged confirmation

    In 2wd, 4 connecting to 6.
In 4wd/4LOW (after the ADD engages), 4 disconnects from 6, then 4 connects to 3 AND 5.
You can disregard the ADD power/ground since you wont have the ADD anymore.

Its as simple as that. Everything is run off ground (with exception of the red wire). The problem with the schematic, is that it doesnt properly(clearly) show 6(green) being disconnect. It took me, continuity testing every little bit on the ADD actuator motor cover, to figure this out. The sweep pattern at both limits has one contact breaking connection.

This whole connect/disconnect/connect can be accomplished by a single 5 pin relay.
    87a for 6(Green)
    87 for 3(green/black) and 5(pink/blue)
    30 for ground source (4-white/black)
    85 for ground
86 for positive (switched to 4wd source)

Next, i'll figure out which wires to tap into at the ECU.

When I get to this, is it safe to say connect the purple wire to the white wire and let it think its in 2wd. for now anyway.

I’m pretty sure you could make all the connections as the sensors in the taco tcase would still work the same?

can’t see it hurting anything. I’m not 100% though

Just make sure when you swap your sensors into the fj case you do a test while the case is not installed so if you can swap the sensors. If you install it, you won’t be able to swap sensors without uninstalling.

on a side note I'm inside the house and everything happening in previous posts were virtual i guess. its that fast... thanks again.

so from 10:41 to 11:37 and includes internet time...

All good. Holler if you need a hand. A guy got his entire swap done in a weekend. The floor sealing may take the longest.

The headers were DIY, was very tedious but managed to get it done, the custom exhaust part was by GT Customs in Oshawa, Mike did a fabulous job as always.

One of the most difficult thing was re-gearing, it was lot harder than I thought as there were shortage of tools from Toyota Canada, I bit the bullet and send my 3rd members and front clamshell to Ken/Zuk @ gearinstalls.com , my transaction with Ken was the most pleasant one I've ever had, he explained to me how to do it right and document every single step of the way, he also explained to me how everything worked with my endless text messages, prior to send them to Ken/Zuk, I had them REM polished and cryo treatment by Jamie @ racegearbox.com , he's out of London and he did an amazing job, my gears are as quiet as stock.

I also have to give thanks to Race Toyota in Lindsay, Apex auto solutions in Markham

Anything particular you’re wanting to know? I had my gears done at ct motorsports in missauga. Apparently these toyota clamshells are a pain in the ass to set up.
